Weekend Support Group?

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I am a year into my weight loss journey with my lap band and feel that I have not bonded very well with it and I am not using it to its full potential!

I still have all my old eating habbits that I have tailored to my band! Hence I am now putting weight on even though I have restriction.

I really could do with a weekend spent with other bandsters learning how to love my band. It would be led by professionals who could advise on diet, menu ideas, portions, exercise and explain head hunger and how to win the battle with band!

It sounds great in principle and perhaps I have watched too many programmes on the TV where they whisk people away and have a team of experts that make the fat melt away!

I know it is down to me and what I eat but if it was that easy I would have never put the weight on in the first place.

Does anyone have any ideas ?

Maybe find some really gung-ho bandsters on here to talk with off the forum to gain encouragement and tips? Maybe direct email or PM's with them...maybe "virtual" workout partners...diet accountability to each other. I wouldn't mind helping out, if you like. Check out my posts...I'm not gung-ho...I'm "GUNG-HO!" LOL Either way, yes it does come down to you, but maybe you just haven't come across the right spark that you need to get you moving? Good luck and keep posting and looking for answers!

I know exactly what you mean, I am only four months in but the band is not enough on its own. I have restriction but little and often can still stop weight loss if it is the wrong little. Where are you based? There does not seem to be any support group in my area but I am happy for you to email me for a chat, someone to compare notes with etc...

Good luck in finding a solution.

I live in the North West of the UK near Manchester.

Really good to talk to people on here but nothing quite the same as meeting up and sharing notes and actually seeing what people are eating or not eating as the case may be!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
