New...and Scared!!

Recommended Posts

I believe that this is not to even be compared to a c section which is so much more invasive. I can understand that you are nervous but you'll do fine; the surgery was a cinch.

I was very fortunate as I had no gas whatsoever. I heard that's the main thing that will cause you discomfort...or maybe you'll be like me and have none .

This is one of the best decisions I've ever made and I love my band even though right now my restriction is minimal!

Regards,

Alfie:rolleyes2:

ps first fill due on March 7

I was also very nervous about "going under", but it all happens so fast and all the people are so kind and understanding that your fears just slip to the back of your mind. Next thing you know, you are waking up and it's all done! I too had a c-section, and I can tell you that there is no comparison. You will feel just fine, although a bit sore. I had my band done on Feb. 1st and am back to my regular routine. I get my first fill on the 28th, but have already lost 10 lbs. I guess it's that super delicious liquid diet! Don't be afraid - it will be the best thing you can do for yourself and the ones you love.

Hi, I am also new to this and is scared like a rat lol. I am in Beaumont Texas and I have had my first consultation with a Dr. Humble. I went to the seminar and just mailed back my packet to the Bariatric Center in Beaumont. I am 245 BMI was 40. I have United Health Care and was told it was covered. How long of a wait do I have now? And what happens next? I have a couple of concerns. Is food hard to go down? Will I be able to eat at restaraunts but just watch what I eat? And what about drinking a couple of beers, Is that a no no?

From what I have heard it is NO carbonation pop or beer or seltzer Water. I have had several surgeries in my life , a couple done with a laproscope like lap band is done and I have had a c section. It is scarey going under each time for me but it all happens so fast and then there you are in recovery. Amazing. I will pray for you. Keep us posted.

Hi All! I've reading over the posts for the past week or so, but have never posted. I have decided to get the Lab Band. I am attending the seminar on Wednesday night and making my surgeon appointment then too. I am SO excited but SO scared! I really want to do this, I really NEED to do this, then why am I so darn nervous? I've never had surgery (except for a C-Section) and I was never under anesthesia, and that's what is making me nervous. Any suggestions on getting over this feeling?

If it makes you feel any better, my surgeon said it only takes him 35 minutes to band a pt. I had knee surgery recently and it took over an hour. You should not be under long and it is not bad. The worse part might be when you WAKE UP in recovery and you might hurt from you incisions but the anesthesia won't hurt you. Also my cousin is a Nurse Anesthesist, they are the ones that sit at your head watching everything the entire time. Good luck, you have made the first step. I made that step Dec 12, 2007 and I am now in the process of getting all of my pre-op appts out of the way.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
