ALLERGIES & THE BAND

Recommended Posts

Ok just got back from My PCP's Office.

History - I woke up Sunday with the lower part of my left eye bulging out.

I thought (Don't laugh) it was the Peperation H I put under my eyes Thought I must have gotten a hemmoroid. Saw that on Ophra

Anyway On Monday yesterday it did not go down and This morning the white part of my eye was swollen if that is possible.

After much checking it is Allergies and it does not stop there since I had been sneezing and all the crude draining down the back of my throat has caused my finicky pouch to have more restriction that I am having a hard time drinking Water it just pools there. Throat is irritated by the drainage but knock on wood no sinus infection yet. Have to double my dose of flonase and use prescribed eye drops and of course the Allegra. Doc says she thought my burning sensation was heartburn or the acid coming up but I only feel the burning at the middle of my throat so it is my sinus again.

Ok I'm done whining

:speechles

Bubba,

I feel you pain. I have had severe allergies since I was 7 yrs old and I must receieve two injections every three weeks to stay out of trouble. I also have allergy inducted asthma but that has not been a problem since 1992, Knock on wood as you say.

Good luck and I hope you clear up soon. The irratation can be very annoying.

Girl, get yourself to an allergist and do the immunotherapy shots. Besides the band, that has been the best thing I have ever done for myself! Do you know if your allergies are mostly caused by environmental issues or are you allergic to some foods?

Hi there I am an allergy and immunology nurse. I am the person who skin tests you and gives people their allergy shots. You should go and see an allergist. Do some research and ask your PCP for a referral. The allergist will do a complete history and look up you nose down your throat and then decide if you should be tested either by skin testing( no antihistamines for 5-7 days prior ) or throught RAST blood tests. Most docs will try medications first before offering allergy shots. Just remember that inmmuunotherapy is a commitment to a least a year if not more of shots, first weekly then bi-weekly then monthly. I hope this helped. Alsotry to drink Water it thins out the mucous. store the eye drops in the fridge it is more soothing that way. and remember to use the Flonase and make sure you are using it correctly.

Thank you all for replying. I feel better today eye is still swelled looks like a pouch with Water in it. I put on my glasses today so it is not quite that noticable. I have not asked my new Doc to see a specialist but will bring that up. I hate taking all these medications first thing in the Am. My allergies are enviromental every time the wind blows I get the sneezes or an Asthma attack. I am doing a bit of wheezing this morning so I know I want to come down with something.

Nana I feel so sorry for you. Hope you are getting better you really had it bad.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
