Has anyone ever had an affair?

Recommended Posts

I need support. I love my husband and we are working things out first of all. He is aware of my affair. My lover lives in NYC and I live in CA. I have known him for over 4 years now. Our affair started about 3 years ago and since then we have remained friends. That is the problem. I know my husband should be my best friend that is why its been so difficult. I haven't spoken to the other man in over a week now. I don't want to have contact anymore but it is very painful for me because we were so close. I would call it an emotional affair as we haven't been intimate for 2 years now. How long did it take you to get completely over your affair? Why is it so difficult?

There's no easy way to do it. You need to cut ties with him, just like that. Dont speak to him again. The answer is simple, the actual process isnt, but if you really want to work things out with your husband, then that's what you have to do.

I've always felt that if my DH were to have a one night stand, I could forgive that. Sex without emotional involvement is sometimes a temporary lapse of self control and willpower, incredibly selfish, yes, but over and done with.

A long standing affair with emotional attachment, including the deceipt and betrayal required to go behind someone's back to that extent, well that I couldnt forgive.

So, hard as it is for you, you either want to work things out with your husband or you dont. The way I see it, physical intimacy with the other man is irrelevant, its the emotional connection that's the betrayal (and the hard part to give up) You need to go cold turkey and just do it Julie or you may end up losing them both.

Everything that Jacqui said. If you really value your marriage and love your husband you would be willing to give up all contact with the other man. If you are not willing to do so then you need to reevaluate whether or not you truely want to be in the marriage you are in.

I want to stay married so that is why I decided no contact with my affair. It really nice because he lives in NYC and I'm in CA so no contact is a little easier. Right now I am in a support group and I am going one day at a time. My affair didn't mind me fat nor did my husband. Funny.

There is an option to monogamy you know. Its called polyamoury. Polyamorous people can have more than one lover at a time. The difference is everyone involved (both lovers, their lovers, etc) all know about each other and are completely ok with it.

There are relationships such as triads, where all 3 people are involved with each other (means at least 2 of them are bisexual) or what's called a 'Vee' where I person has two partners. The two partners know about each other and are friends, but don't have any intimate contact with each other.

Then partners can have partners as well. If you'd like to know more just send me a private message. I'm polyamorous. My partner was mono before he met me but has decided he'd like to try poly as well. It will be interesting to see how he goes.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
