Hey!

I was banded on the 7th and I am having the same burping problem. It sort of hurts doesn't it? Not terrible but uncomfortable. I have been taking Gas-x strips and they help a little but it's really getting annoying.

Can't help you on the sugar thing, I can't have anything with real sugar in it right now.

I'm planning to ask about the burping at my post op appt on Thursday. Hopefully I can give you some insight then.

Hi,

I had my surgery last friday Feb 8th and I too am experiencing the non-stop burping. My goodness!! And the discomfort from the gas is getting better - I can now sleep on both sides.

My doctor wanted me on soft solids right from the get go. Day one was a few slices of fruit for Breakfast with half a slice of whole wheat toast, drink for lunch, had cottage cheese and peaches (no sugar) and a little mac and cheese with whole wheat Pasta.

Since then, I have had Soup, shepards pie, cream of wheat, oatmeal, eggs. I am just eating small amounts, but the softer cosistency definatley helps. I haven't found anything that won't go down or that I am having problems with. Just taking little bites and using a small bowl with a small spoon/fork and chewing lots. So far so good and down 13.4lbs!

Hi,

I don't know. The hospital gave me the food restrictions for a gastric by pass - the blenderized foods, etc. When I spoke with my surgeon later that night once I got back to the hotel, he said not to follow that. He said to start out small with soft foods. He said for the first day fruit for Breakfast and soft foods. So I am following instructions.

Hi,

My surgeon had me hook up with an awesome nutritionist well before my surgery and I am so lucky to have her.

My surgery was February 1. Four days of horrific left shoulder pain, so much that I hardly noticed the pain in my gut. Now that the shoulder is good, the pain from the port area is really irritating. Does anyone know how long that lasts?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
