Will he know if I ate too much?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have been struggling in Bandster Hell this past week. I'm due for my first fill this Friday, but I'm a little worried.

Saturday night I overate and although I didn't PB, my stomach feels like I was kicked by a horse. It's really sore, even today it feels tender.

My doc's PA said that they would be able to tell during my fill if I've been overeating.

Do you think once is enough to stretch my pouch?:)

I do not believe that one slip up will be enough to stretch your pouch. My understanding is that it's caused by overeating habitually.

But if your stomach hurts, definitely take it easy. Maybe even do mushies for a few days.

Thanks. I have been trying to take it easy since Sat. I thought it was strange that the PA told me that he will know when he does the fill if I've been eating over 4oz. I've been losing OK, considering that I'm in bandster hell, but I really don't want to get chewed out for overeating once. I really hope I didn't do any damage.

I think that is a load of crap! When you get banded, your job is to HEAL from surgery. I'm sure you didn't hurt your pouch and he won't be able to tell. I think it was some sort of threat, which I think is ridiculous. Keep your focus. Life is life and I'm sure we've all overeaten many more times than once. I know I have...early in my banding, I ate a few times and threw up because it was too much. It's all part of the learning experience. Just keep your focus. You'll be fine!! Good luck with your fill!

The only way he can tell is if you overeat often and stretch your pouch and they do fills under flouro. I seriously doubt one incident will cause your pouch to stretch. If that is true then I think it is safe to say that 95% of all bandsters pouches are stretched. LOL

Thanks. This makes me feel much better. I'm being very careful this week, but I'm starving.

You are probably okay. Do they do the fills under fluoro? That may be the only way they know you have overeaten. Unless the scale says so. Go on liquids for a couple days, then mushies if you are sore. Good luck.

Suzanne - I remember that I was hungry and could eat a lot before my first fill. If you're worried about stretching your pouch, try eating less at eat sitting, but eat more often and make healthy choices. Good luck with your fill.

Yes, he does it under fluoro. I'm doing mostly soft food now. I'll do liquids that day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
