Why am I hungry?

Recommended Posts

I am 3 weeks post op and I have lost 12 kilos so far, but I am hungry. I am eating less than before, but my weight loss has stopped and I am worried I have lost focus:sad:

I have had a hard couple of weeks. My son was in hospital for 2 weeks and I stayed with him. he seems on the mend, but its been so hard seeing him so sick. I was only 7 days post op when he got sick, so in some way all my plans went out the window.

I have an appointment on Feb 26th for my first fill, does that help?

Help

Beginning the fill process is the answer you are looking for!

Having a new band---is like getting the new car you really wanted! But right now you have that new car, and no gas! It is nice to have it, but it really isn't getting you anywhere!!

I had chaos right after being banded too. I was banded the end of April '06, and my DH was diagnosed with a bad heart valve the first of May! We went through open heart surgery, and several procedures following---was a roughyear--but I survived it! You will too. I know how hard it is to see your child hurting, I am so sorry he has been sick! Is he better now?

You may not get much restriction from your first fill, it is hard to say---some do, some don't. I had to slow down, it reminded me I had a band, but I could still eat too much, so went for another a month later! But the first fill is the place to start, and go up in small increments from there, it will make a major difference in your eating and your hunger. Right now you are back to doing all the work yourself, soon the band will be there helping!

Hang in there the 26th will be here soon!!

Hi Cherry

The same thing with the weightloss happened to me, I lost 9kg's in the first 3 weeks, then nothing else until I had my first fill.

I then lost another 4kg's between my 1st and 2nd fill (nearly an 8 week gap) - I found it extremely frustrating and disappointing. Willpower can be a b***h.

On Thursday last week I went for my 2nd fill and have lost another 1.5 kg's in 5 days - so things are beginning to turn around for me - I now have a small amount of restriction, where as before I had none.

Hang in there through bandsters hell, things will start happening for you soon.

Take care and big hugs to your little boy.

Amy

It was so good to read your post, I had my first fill on Feb 4th and I fell no restriction whatsoever, I was like thinking what the heck!!! My next fill is Feb 29th so I'm hoping that will be better.

I think each fill you will be closer....it is a guessing game as to what will be right for you.

I had my first fill of 1.25cc. in June---and like I say I had minor change, I felt it, IF I ate too fast, if I ate slow, I could have eaten all day long! So a month later I went in, and he only gave me .50cc. So less than half what he gave me the first time. I was SOOOO disappointed, thinking this was going to take forever. To get to my fills is inconvenient, and I was seriously bummed out! I did my day of liquids, and when I went to food---OMG I had restriction! 3-4 bites of food and I was major FULL!!! I was afraid of that much restriction! The thought of only eating 3 bites at a time was terrifying! But I decided to take it a day at a time, as long as I could eat healthy food, I hung with it, and the fill did relax. Now I can eat a small but healthy portion.

My point is, sometimes all it takes is the smallest of tweaks to hit a sweet spot....so don't get discouraged---it DOES happen!

It's been good reading these posts. I had my surgery done, then got 1 ml filled, then 1 more ml and that was far too much...could not eat solids very well at all....got the 1 ml taken out, went overseas, and now im back ive been putting off going back because im scared that i wont be able to eat anymore and will vomit everything back up! BUT ive bitten the bullet and made an appointment for next tues and i'll only be asking for 1/2 ml max! Right now im not really sure what full feels like! Im eating a big plate of food for every meal and im sooo worried that im damaging it. So hopefully this fill will help!

Hi Ashnurse, welcome to LBT!

Sorry your first fill was a difficult one---at least it sounds like you give it time before trying it again. Swelling is often an issue with fills from what I have read.

The most important thing I found after mine---and I am put on liquids for 24 hours following, but when I begin eating again, is to CHEW really, really well!

I was afraid my 2nd fill was too much, because for about 4 days, I was only able to eat 4-5 bites at a time---little bites! I knew that was not enough for proper nutrition---which is as much of a goal for me as weight loss---so I was going to call when the weekend was over, and I think my swelling went down some, and I was able to take more in. I have steadily increased I think, I have restriction still, but nothing real tight like that!!!

I think you are wise in asking for a smaller fill----sneaking up on restriction seems to be working for lots of people here on LBT!

Let us know how you do!!!

ALl normal it happened to me too. The first 6 weeks should be about healing after the operation not losing weight - that is a bonus though.

I am due for first fill next week and boy oh boy - do I feel i need it!!!

its all good.

Cherry_blue, I feel for you and can totally relate to how you are feeling.

I am nearly 5 weeks past banding and feeling pretty hungry too. I am trying to keep the amount I put in my mouth down and restrict it to the right foods too. Why am I craving white bread right now - even when I don't eat it much! I do seem to scoff down my food as I seem to be so hungry..and that's not good as I am supposed to be chewing it slowly! I do feel some slight indigestion too after I eat now. This is surely a sign that I am eating too fast...

I think whilst my weight is fluctuating a little, I am losing the inches. I tried on a couple of clothes a couple of weeks ago and again last night and can tell the difference in my size. This is a good thing!

My first fill is 10th April and I am really looking forward to it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
