Lap band to get pregnant

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone This is my first post. I will be having the Lap band surgery in the end of March. I am very excited. Unlike a lot of others my main goal is not to lose a ton of weight but to lose enough that I can have regular menstal cycles. Due to me having PCOS, I only menstate every 3 months. In order to be able to menstrate every month, I must lose 60 pounds. This is the only way I will be able to ever get pregnant and have a child. Is their anyone else out there who has had experience with what I am talking about? How long did it take to reach a goal like 6o pounds? Or who is doing this surgery to help them become pregnant in the future? Please respond and tell me your story, advice, or anything else you would like to share.

I am 4'10 and I weigh 170. My goal is 105

Thanks!!!!

Every person with PCOS is different when or if your cycles become regular. I did not ovulate for the first time until I was 22 and on clomid. Every time after that was on injectable fertility drugs or fertinex (4 more ovulations by the time I was 26). After my one pregnancy ended up ectopic, I decided to lose weight. I was shocked when I got below 200 pounds and I started ovulating "regularly" (every 32-38 days). Over the next two years I still did not get pregnant. I have gained back my weight and so the ovulating has stopped, but I have learned that somewhere in the past six years, my tubes became totally blocked. I think it was when I lost my baby(ies). I now have to do IVF no matter what to become pregnant. The doctors will not do IVF unless I have a BMI below 40, I would like to have a BMI below 30 so that I can reduce my chance of miscarriage. My surgeon says I can do IVF as soon as I get to that goal because of the history of early menopause in my family (my mother and grandmother both had early menopause) - and this even though I am only 31 (almost 32).

By the way I also have PCOS, and yes, one of the reasons I am doing this is because I want to get pregnant. Also because my mom had her first heart attack one year after she his menopause and has had 5 heart attacks and 2 strokes since, not to mention numerous other problems all stemming from her weight.

My only co-morbidity is PCOS.

Hi, I have also PCOS. My symptoms really did not get bad until after I had children though. There is another thread that you may want to check out that is dedicated to people with PCOS at

http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/those-who-have-pcos-44999/

You will be able to get great support there and hear from many others who are going through the same thing as you. Best of luck to you.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
