Stabbing pains around band.

Recommended Posts

I was banded Friday (2-18-08). I felt good yesterday. I went for a ride with my family. I carried my purse, etc., myself. It wasn't causing any problems. Last night and today I have kind of stabbing pains around my band when I do anything where I use my stomach muscles. Is this normal?

Is the pain around your port? Port pain is the most intense and most persistent after surgery...the stitches are attached to muscle, y'know. So yeah, continue to take it easy. The port pain can last for 3-6 weeks, but it gets a little better every day!

I don't think it is where my port. It is in the middle of my stomach. I guess I'll call my doctor if it isn't better in a couple of days.

the band is probably higher than you think... do you feel a bump there? then it just might be your port- a lot of people have them placed in the middle between their breasts. where is your port scar? is it midline?

Thanks for the responses. It helps to hear from people with experience. I called my doc's office. They said the third day is the worst. I hope they are right. I've been wondering if this is the stupidest thing I've ever done.

Oh gosh!!! LOL I remember thinking that very same thing!! Then i remembered that everyone on this board went thru the same experience...it's very common to have second thoughts at this point! TRUST ME, it will pass and you'll love your band as much as i do!!!

Hang in there!!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
