Finally banded 02.02.08!!

Recommended Posts

Just to let you all know that everything went perfectly with my operation on the 2nd. I was admitted at 1.30pm, walked to the operating room around 3.10pm, DH said they came for my bed at 4.30pm, told him the operation went fine. I remember waking up in recovery with a lot of referred pain in my left shoulder. I wasn't taken back to my room until around 6.30pm. I was up and walking within an hour. Overnight stay in hospital (standard procedure here in the UK). Showered the following morning, saw the Anaesthetist and the Surgeon, who both said it was a text-book operation! Was discharged around 11am.

I only had Water the first 2 days (all I could face), now on clear Soup etc for the next 3 weeks. Back to the hospital tomorrow just to see how I'm doing and then first fill in 5 weeks!

The post op diet is fine. I think I'm used to not eating now. Although it doesn't help that DH is sitting next to me right now eating pizza Hut!!!

Sadie :)

Hello, I was banded on Feb 4th, 2008. I have not eaten for about a week. Sipping broth, was able to do a little cream Soup. Hot tea works best for me. Mostly Hot drinks, Soups ect... I cannot eat even yogurt or oatmeal yet. I tried a scrambled egg this morning, but no go... My surgery went well, but I woke up with that gas pain in my shoulder and a great deal of nausia. I am down about 6 pounds since the surgery, was hoping to make it to the 180 somethings today, but I am stuck at 192.4 it seems... Not sure why, perhaps I am not taking in enough to shed these pounds... My husband and I are going to purchase a treadmill today and I will begin walking as long as I can stand it today. I am not sure if I am expecting too much or what. Going to call the doc today to make the post op appointment, see what I can do to get this moving along... I cannot eat really, and no hunger at all which I am so grateful for. I can make it most of the day without a pain pill now, so I feel pretty good about that. Had to take one last night as the oatmeal I tried hurt me alot and I made it real soupy, but not going down... I am curious does your body go into like shock and won't turn loose of those pounds? Like I feel like I eat nothing for days and should be down at least a couple and it appeared I gained like .4 pound perhaps I am checking too often?

Steadfast & Working hard-

Michelle

Congrats on your band. I can hardly wait for mine.

Give yourself a little time on the weight loss. Your body is still recovering from the drugs they gave you and probably still holding onto some of the IV fluids they pumped into you. If you are sipping Water as you should that will plump up your tissues (as it should) and make you appear heavier in the short term. try to weigh yourself only once a week. If you must weigh yourself, do it in the morning before you eat or drink anything. It's only been a week. The pounds are probably already gone but with all of your liquids it just isn't showing. Hang in there. We are all cheering for you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
