Just made my requirements for insurance, what a pain in the butt! They require 6 months consect. pcp visits and many additional hoops. Thats fine it`s been very informative. The group that does my surgery requires a loss of 10 pounds. Buy working my butt off I`ve lost 31 pounds, hope that shows my dedication. Im hoping to get a call from thier dietician any time, staying positive.

I have just pestered my PCP to get me a referral to a lap band surgeon. He isn't a fan of surgery. Success after 6 months. I now wonder how long this next process will be. I meet with the surgeon on thursday. I've been with a dietician before (2 years ago) took 6 months lost 45 and now have gained back 20. Story of my life. Overweight for the past 30 years and am just getting the start of high blood pressure. Any suggestions of questions to the surgeon about surgery at 51? Still pretty healthy and on no meds. Does he know the insurance process or is that really a staff question... Thanks for input I love reading everybodys posts. The info is great.:)

SueAZ, Are you in Arizona? I am. I am 51 today and I am in the research stages. I am going to a seminar this week and then making an appt with my PCP who doesn't believe in diets. But I will bug him a lot if I have to to get that referral. I live near Casa Grande. Where are you?

Yep, I'm on the west side of the valley in Goodyear. I've attended Dr Blackstone seminar, and will be going to Dr Fang out of Banner & St Lukes this tuesday. I got my referral but who knows how long t will still be.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
