Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

This month's meeting was such a success that we have decided to have another get together next month and would like to invite anyone that'd like to join us! Whether you are pre-band, newly banded or an old band pro. Everyone is welcome!

Where: Polaris Mall food Court

When: Saturday March 8, 2008

Time: 2 p.m.

Look for us near the entrance to the Great Indoors store. We will have a helium balloon marking our group.

All you have to bring is your smile... but if you want to you are welcome to bring outgrown clothes to share with those that might need/want them as well as a "before" picture to add to our group photo album.

I hope to see you there!!!!

I want to thank everyone that I got clothes from it made me realize that I can give up the old large sizes and it is so nice to have clothes that really fit without spending a lot of money till I get to the size that i am going to be for a longtime the clothes are such an encougement. I have refilled the box I recieved with clothes that I have cleaned out of my closet ,this clothing exchange is just a wonderful Idea. It is so wonderful to see people at all stages of this lapband journey and all the help and encougement that is avaiable from people that have been there!!!!

Can't wait till next month!!! This is such a good group to belong to.

Thanks Heather for getting the ball rolling. You seem to have a gift for organizing!!! Keep up the good work and If I can help you in anyway just let me know.

Kathy

I'm so thankful also! Christine gave me some terrific capris and I hope by the time the weather is warm enough to wear them that they'll fit me :-)

I'm already working on another bag of goodies to bring to our next meeting.

I can't make the March meeting. I'll be in Ft. Lauderdale (Yeah!) but for a work certification test that I've been studying for since Jan 1 (Boo!).

I'll miss the meeting.

I appreciate the clothes that I got. The only ones I can bring right now are 5x and 6x (34-36). That is all that is too big for me. Can anyone use those? If so, I will bring to April's meeting.

Susan

Tyanna, were you able to get anything from that box to fit? On my way home it kind of hit me. I looked at my husband and said, I did it. I can't believe it but I did it. He said what are you talking about. I said I gave my clothes away and I didn't think twice about keeping them. I gave 3/4 to Tyanna and i will send the rest to julie. My closet is almost empty and I am ok with that!! Size 14 here I come. I am going to try my best to come back in march, we'll see.

Yes. Bellsmommy I did get I lot and the rest I will bring in on the 8th.

I will still be able to wear the 18s for another month but then I will bring them in and I will be looking for 16's as the 18's are almost loose on me but 16's are just a bit to tight for me to be comfortable yet. Woo hoo I hardly saw myself as an 18 and they are almost to big for me:) light bulb moment for me. I just didn't think that I was that close to fitting into a size 16. And to think I have been wearing such big cloths when I could have been wearing two sizes small and even that is loose!!! Who would have ever thought it. I guess I was so used to getting bigger that i just didn't know how much smaller I really was. The clothing exchange is a great idea!!!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
