Overwhelmed by amount to lose

Recommended Posts

I was banded on Jan 25th also, and have 200 lbs to lose. I am not thinking of that though. I am concentrating on the next 2 lbs. Good luck to us both.

"I do not follow all the rules, all the time. But I follow all the rules some of the time, and try to do better every day."

Maziemommy, those are the best words I have read in a long time. Thank you all for your wisdom, honesty, inspiration and hope. I'm in!

Hello All! I too have over a 100 pounds to loose, but I don't care about that. Yes, I understand that to be truly healthy, those 100 pounds have to come off and they will. What's important to me is what I can wear and how I feel. I have two closets crammed full of clothes in many different sizes, plus a couple of boxes still unpacked. I've organized my walk-in closet and arranged those clothes in groups according to size. They run from small 12's up to 3X. (Yes, I know I'm crazy for keeping them all, but I new one day I would wear them again!!) My first goal is to get back into my 18's. I figure that's about 20-30 pounds. I plan on having a "shopping session" once a month where I try on clothes in my closets. I'll put the things I want to wear up front where I can see them and they can be an inspiration. All clothes that are too big will go away. The way I figure it, I'm successful when I can get everything, comfortably in one closet. When there's nothing left, I'm there to maintain for the rest of my life! :frown: I want to feel healthy and run again, I want to be the person I know I am on the inside, but most of all I want to go into my closet knowing that everything in there will fit!!! Good luck to you all.

When the bigger clothes are too big to wear get rid of them - donate them. You'll see. You're never going to need those big ones again.

Congratulations and best wishes.

I realize I was just banded on Jan. 25th 2008. But I am freaking out. I just have so much to lose. I need to lose over a 100lbs. Glad I found this group. It helps to keep me focused. Anyone else out there overwhelmed?

I was there and I understand how hard it is to see the BIG number. I needed to loose 150. I have now lost 160. I can tell you the days that I let the number overwhelm me were the worst ever. You can not let it get you down. It is not about the number, it is about getting healthy!

Take each day as it comes and remember each loss builds on the last. If you let the numbers overwhelm you, you may never loose. You can do this. It took me about 16 months to get to the goal of 150 lbs gone. It comes off faster than you think, but don't let the numbers drag you down. Sometimes you will loose LOTS in a week, and some weeks not at all. It all evens out in the end!

Good luck and best wishes to you all! :crying:

I was just banded on Monday St. Patrick's day and today at Easter dinner with family, they were inquiring just how much do you want to lose??? I said Oh, heck, easily over 100 lbs! and probably alot more than that... dodging and weaving from telling them its really 180 total pounds I'm trying to lose. I didn't want them mentally backward calculating if I lose 180 and I'm a healthy weight what they heck does she weigh now!!

So, my first goal is 10% of my starting weight. They say there are medical statistics that say just losing 10% of your body weight dramatically increases your mortality and other health factors. So, I'm looking forward to posting when I know I have 10% accomplished.

I was banded on Jan 7, 2008 and have lost 35 pounds. At first the losing was easy, but now its slowed down and I have to make sure I keep exercising so it'll keep coming off. One day at a time. Keep at it!

You're very welcome, I think it is one thing they never tell us in the pre op classes. Once I figured it out, it helped keep me sain!

I have 143 lbs. I want to lose. I try not to think about the total amount.

I'm taking it a few lbs. at a time. The last time I weighed I was 260.5. I'm just concentrating on getting in the 250's. When I get in my 250's, I'll concentrate on getting in the 240's, etc.

I just think I can "handle" all this better if I take it a few pounds at a time!!

Today is a land-mark day for me. I broke 250.

I WeightWatcher-ed myself to 249 for ONE WEIGH IN ONLY in 2002. My body just seemed to muchly prefer the 250s!!!! It took me over three years, but I put it all back and more...eventually reaching an all-time high of 321 last Spring after being put on several new prescriptions!

For the first time in 16 years I'm under 250.

My new "to lose" goal is now double digits!

I'm now off of ALL of those prescriptions that made me feel so terrible.

Everything in my closet is NEW!

I now, occasionally, buy a garment that has no Xs anywhere on the label!

I AM a happy camper!! A sharp contrast to how utterly OVERWHELMED I was a year ago!

I would love to lose 100 pounds at hit goal overnight. However, it's not gonna happen. But I've lost 32 pounds and have seen so much progress. The people in the fitting room yesterday were probably laughing at me because I couldn't stop checking out my body in the mirror (and I am not skinny yet!) but they don't know that I was a size 26 jeans and a 2x top, and now I have said goodbye to plus sizes for good and am in amazement that I fit into size 16 jeans and a L top. My body looks half the size it used to be. It is truly amazing to me. I don't think I could lift 32 pounds. That's how much I lost from my own body! It is coming off slowly (6 mos) but that doesn't bother me. You know how its hard to tell that you are losing weight, cuz although you see the scale going down, you look in the mirror and think you look the same? Being in regular sized clothes, there is no denying that I made my body totally different! I could mope in the mirror, how come I'm not 134 yet, but that would be unproductive. Plus, if I felt sexy and pretty at 242, I think I am way hotter now! My next goal is size 14 jeans. Just break up your 100+ pound weight loss into small, reachable goals and you will amaze yourself with what you can accomplish. It's fun trying on clothes and discovering your size keeps getting smaller and smaller.

I had the band BECAUSE I was overwhelmed by the idea of having to diet my way down 140lb. I honestly knew I couldn't stick to that for the length of time needed, without help. Now that I have the band and I am not fighting all day every day, I feel much more confident that I can go the distance and get to goal.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
