Working nights post op

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!!! I am wondering if anyone has gone back to work while still on liquids? ?? I am returning to work on Sunday night (8pm to 8am) and I am currently on a diet of 3 Protein shakes/day with one "snack". I am thinking of spreading my shakes out during the day before so that I can have one at night. And since I will be sleeping the majority of the day after, I may have one or two after midnight.......does anyone have any advice? Thank you for all replies!!!!

i was on liquids when i returned to work. just space them out the same as you would during the day. have 'breakfast' at 9-10pm, 'lunch' about 2amish, 'snack' about 5am then 'dinner' when you get home.

you can do this!

Welcome! I also work 12.5 hour nights (RN) and didn't have a problem returning to work. I had a shake at 3 AM, another at 9 AM, and had the 3rd before I went to work @ 4-5 PM. Bring in some cup-a-soups (tomato has more protein), and some Protein Water so you stay hydrated.

Thank you both so much for the advice! I have worked two nights now and have done ok so far. I did space my shakes out like you both suggested and I actually had more energy than I did before I was banded (you know, when I ate all night to keep myself awake).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
