Hey there fellow Texans! I have my first appointment with my surgeon on March 14th. Can anyone tell me about how long it takes after the initial appointment to get the surgery done? Thanks.

I'm also from Texas. Have had my initial consultation, did all but one of my preliminary tests (blood work, psych test, stress test) still haven't scheduled the sleep apnea test. I had my consultation about 2 weeks ago (seems like years) and am in process of getting my letter for the insurance company together and submitted. It seems that the insurance side of this takes the longest.

I'm hanging in there, but anxious to get going!

I'm from Texas too! Mine took about 5-6 weeks, but it really depends on who your doctor is and how busy he is. I was a self pay, so I got in alot faster than the insurance people did.

I started looking into the band October and my band date is March 18 so it took me about 5 months. But I had a delay because I had to have gallbladder surgery first .I would say 3 to 4 months is a goog GUESS!!!It could be sooner though.

Thanks you guys. Since I'm self pay, I may get this done sooner than I expected. I'm sure I'll find out when I see the doc on March 14th. I'll let ya'll know as soon as I know anything.

Well, I had my appointment with Dr. Chung on March 14. He initially wanted to do the surgery on Good Friday, but anesthesia is off for the holiday. My surgery has been scheduled for April 1. That's right, April Fool's Day! Anyway, my pre-op tests are going to be done on the 30th. It's amazing to me how many of the "necessary" tests really aren't so necessary when insurance isn't footing the bill. The only tests I have to have are bloodwork, an EKG and a chest x-ray. I'm not really nervous, just a little anxious to get it over with. At least I'm able to have one last hoo-ray at Easter. The day after Easter I start my liquid diet. That means I'll probably eat so much turkey and other goodies, I'll make myself sick. Gotta remember to wear my eating pants that day cause it's the last time I'll need them!!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one getting banded on April Fool's Day! Woo Hoo! Getting a little anxious and nervous. Pre-op testing is wednesday, then surgery on friday. I swear, I think they should prescribe everyone a really big bottle of Valium or Xanax for the week prior to surgery to help relieve those pre-surgery jitters!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
