I know this might sound stupid to some people but I was wondering. Can you take a shower at the hospital after the surgery? If not, how long after surgery can you shower?

Thanks,

Chilly

I was released the same day I had surgery, slept most of it & throught he night, and showered the next morning at home. I was told (common sense) not to wash around the incisions, just to let the Water run over them, and also to pat them dry.

I was a bit of a chicken to take my first shower and I waited to take a full shower until three days after the surgery. Before that, I gave myself quick sponge baths. I guess I was worried about irritating the incisions and possibly causing an infection.

My doctor told me I could take a shower as early as the day after surgery, but to face away from the Water stream so that the Water wouldn't beat down on the incisions.

I was told I could take a shower the second day after surgery. They told me to let the warm Water run over my incisions and it really, really felt good!

I was told that I could shower on the 3rd day after surgery. Also, due to my port incision (he really had to work to sew that sucker to my belly through all that fat), I had to cover my incision with plastic wrap for the first week to keep it from getting wet and causing complications

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
