Help....The scale will not move!

Recommended Posts

I'm 2.5 weeks out and I lost 10lbs pre-op, 8 lbs post-op and I have not lost one pound in a week. Do you think I'm doing something wrong? I'm having an average of 250 calories a day.

I tried what someone said and upped my calories a couple of days and went back down but nothing. Is it because I lost so fast the first couple of weeks, or am I doing something wrong? The only thing I can thank that I've changed is 1 tblspoon of Peanut Butter in my shake. Thanks for the help.

A stall between weeks 3 - 5 on any weightloss regimine should be expected. It's part of the body saying, "Woah -- wtf?" (insert lots of stuff about what your body is actualyl doing here) It will adjust, and weightloss will resume.

Also keep in mind that no change on the scale does not mean no change in the amount of fat you have.

Why are you only eating 250 calories almost 3 weeks out? (just curious) Is that your surgeon's plan, or is that just all you can eat?

I recently went five weeks (YES 5!!!) without any loss at all. I was ready to pull my hair out. I was getting depressed, but low and behold, over the last two days I've dropped 4 pounds. WHAM! And it was gone. It's amazing. I didn't do anything really different. It's so strange.

Geesh! not you, but me. I didn't lose my first pound until 10 weeks after surgery.

And I am happy with my success....but you lost all that weight w/o an adjustment and you are thinking somethings wrong?

Reality check! You are doing great and better than expected....anyone that loses even a pound BEFORE restriction is doing something the band isn't supposed (as in made) to do...be grateful.

Yeah this is just how are bodies are! 250 calories after 2.5 weeks????

You probably need to eat more. If I don't see the scale budge, I try a couple days of lower calories and then a few days of higher ( but not too high) calories. I figure during the caveman days, they could not have had the same access to food every day. Maybe one day they found a lot of berries and that's all they ate and then the next day maybe they killed an animal and ate a lot.

Anyway, it usually works for me and I see the scale move. Everybody has their own technique. BUT 18 pounds is great!

its normal to go through times where you dont lose. i went 2 1/2 weeks after i lost 20pounds in one month without any loss,i think the body needs to catch up. we go through so many stages at first. i am now almost 3 months out and i can pretty much eat anything i want without any problems so i need to be careful. i know that when you get the right fill things will be different. as far as eating 250 calories you probably need more. when i was eating 800-1000 calories i didnt lose for 10 days but when i went up to 1200 calories i started to lose again. it helps to change things up once in awhile. if you eat the same thing everyday your body gets used to it.

You are doing fine. I'm seconding what everyone above already told you. I had the same experience and I know it is frustrating but it is also very normal. I think I type this response twenty times a week but am happy to say it again so here goes....Your band does not work until you A. Have it filled to the proper capacity for you (find your sweet spot) B. Are eating solid foods. Right now you are the same exact person as you were before surgery, except for the band around your stomach that is now too loose to really restrict anything and that blasted port which is healing and causing you much discomfort. Your job right now is to heal. That is it! I know you want to lose weight! I want to lose it too. And I would sure like to lose it faster. But you have to be patient and get healed then get your fills and only then will you lose. Some people do lose during that pre-op phase, but not everyone does. You will get there so just hang in there. By the way, look at my ticker and notice I have lost 18 pounds total since October 26th! I lost 12 pounds the first week and only six more in the 3 months since. I have had four fills and am still not at my sweet spot. So no, I don't think you are doing anything wrong!!! Just enjoy the 18 pounds. P.S. when was the last time you lost 18 pounds in 2.5 weeks??? I never have! :smile2:

I wish my complaint was stalling out for a week or two. I have lost 10lb total in 10 months with the lapband. To say I'm disapointed would not even cover it.

I totally feel your pain on this.

I was banned on Jan. 29th. I lost 11 lbs. Pre-op on opit-fast and another 12 lbs. post-op. This past Saturday went to a concert and had 3 glasses of wine. (I know you all are thinking that I shouldn't have had any and I know that but I did.) Low and behold on Sunday morning I gained 6 lbs. I am totally freaking out because it is now Wednesday and I have gained another half of lbs and can't loss anything. I did just move into the pureed diet this week but have really only added 1/2-1 cup of pureed Protein to my diet. I am stiring Protein Powder into just about everything I eat and am walking 2 miles a day. Also this week I started doing light weight lifting to work my arms. Only 5 lbs dumb bells. (Can't lift anything more then that!!) If anyone has advice I could sure use some right now. Thanks and keep going strong!!!

Hey there

Don't worry everything is fine, I too found that exact same problem and then boom my weight just started shifting and coming off on the scales. Your body needs time to adjust from liquid diet to solids, this process will usually take around two to three weeks to occur, one day soon you will hop on the scales and miraculously you will have lost weight and even more importantly will keep on losing weight, so just hang in there that's all it is. It's perfectly normal good luck, Peta

Perhaps you are not taking in ENOUgh CALORIES - if you don't take in enough your body goes into STARVATION mode - 250 cal a day is not enough - try increasing your intake

I drank a product I found in the grocery in the produce section.

It is made by Bolthouse Farms - they have several flavors.

I had the Protein Drink - comes in Cappiciano and vanilla.< /p>

It is very tasty - organic and the Protein has plenty of protein to help give you energy and helps your body function.

My other favorite is the Blue Goddess - I have it for Breakfast with my liquid Vitamin and my Omega 3-6-9 oil.

Give it a try - you are not taking in enough calorie

Also - try the chat room - the advise I got helped me a lot.

Good Luck,

M

WHOA....I would be talking to your nutritionist about the only 250 calories. That is not enough. Even if you lose weight on such a low amount, a good portion of it is going to be muscle because your body is not getting enough of what it needs from food. If you don't feel like EATING more, then maybe try Protein shakes to supplement. I would ask your nutritionist for a MINIMUM caloric intake amount. Eating such a low amount can also affect your bones as you lose weight because your body will start to pull nutrients from there, as well. In addition, 250 calories will be incredibly difficult to maintain long-term. Better to learn now how to make healthy food choices that fill you up and give you a good daily number so that when the initial push of motivation wears off, it's easier to follow.

You may want to google how anorexia affects your body because that is essentially what you're doing. There is no way you can get all of the nutrients your body needs from 250 calories per day even WITH supplementation. If I sound harsh, it's only because I'm really worried for you. That does not sound healthy at all.

Plateaus are a fact of life and a part of the process. You have to get very scientific about them. There is a very physical reason you are stalled out. I would say you are nowhere NEAR taking in enough calories. 800-1000 is ideal. Don't think just because the caloric intake is low that your body is going to drop the weight. Sounds reasonable, but there are multiple factors at work which guarantee that is NOT going to be the case. Up your Protein, up your calories, up your liquid intake substantially and above all....LOG your food intake. Can't stress that ENOUGH.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
