How long after surgery were you guys able to lift a significant amount? I am a little scared to try and lift a PT on a backboard or stretcher too soon and risk hurting myself.

I'd wait a couple weeks before hitting it too hard. I started some lifting of 50 lb bags after 2 weeks. By 4 weeks, I was back to normal. You young bucks might bounce back a little quicker...

I also posted this in the other law enforcement thread.

Hey guys! It has been three weeks since my surgery and I am down 21 pounds. I will be having to get a smaller belt soon. I am getting a coworker to make some new holes in some of my other belts. I think this surgery is the best thing I have ever bought. The money saved on food is substantial. My social life is now improving as now I can afford to go out. I am getting used to consuming less of everything. I am now satisfied with two tasty adult beverages (crown with water). I used to drink a six pack on my days off. I am also getting a lot more exercise. I really want to run again, but I have to wait another week. Another 3 weeks I can get off light duty. Thanks for the fantastic support.

Robert

Its great to see a ems/ fire thread. I am a emt intermediate in Vegas , and I am going to paramedic school. just got the referral from my insurance company so I am well on my way I think. Just wondering if any medics out there had any problems with eating post band wile at work, we do system status posting so we are almost always moving , and as a result eating on the run.

Hello everyone, I am on the countdown to my surgery it is going to happen on July 19th. That is my own personal independence day, like you guys I work in public safety as a Fire Captain and Paramedic. For the fire guys out there, has the port caused any problems with your uniform belt, SCBA belts or straps, rescue harnesses or turn out gear? I have always been proud of myself that even at my heaviest I have performed well and always passed my fit for duty tests. I don't know why, but now I am worried about the post-op fit for duty testing. What have been your experiences returning to work?

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
