March 3rd - Anyone Else?

Recommended Posts

After over a year of trying for insurance approval, I finally have a surgery date of March 3rd.

I am both excited and nervous. I've wanted this for so long but now I find that I'm worrying about all the things that could go wrong. I'm working on snapping out of that frame of mind, of course.

Anyone else scheduled for March 3rd? I'd love to have some surgery day or even surgery week buddies to keep me motivated. I have over 100 lbs to lose and I'm just SO ready to get this party started!

Congrats! Sounds like we have the same story (long wait...same weight loss goals...age...) I'm 10 days after you! We can do this...I'm ready. I'm quite sure you are too!

Hi there,

I am getting banded on 3/3/2008! I have been waiting six months for my insurance to approve me, so I know what you mean about the long wait. I am starting to get really nervous, but excited too.

Lets keep each other posted!

Congrats!!

I too have a surgery date for Feb. 26th. Got a question. Have any of you started the pre-surgery diet. I'm having a really tough time. I started the pre-op diet on yesterday and feel so hungry and lightheaded especially at night. What do I do?

My doc has yet to give me a pre-op diet. This has me a little concerned but pleased. Regardless, I'm being very careful with what I eat *just in case*.

Hopefully, someone else will be able to help with your question. Feeling lightheaded is not fun. The only thing I can recommend is make sure you are getting plenty of fluids to keep yourself hydrated.

Hello,

I am having my surgery also on March 3rd. I have been waiting for about three weeks now and I got the news on today. I have a pre-op on the 28th of Feb. I also meet the dietitian on that day. The doctor said that I will be on a liquid diet for that weekend. I am ready! I hope that we can keep in touch. Good luck!

My date is set for March 3, too. I started the process of insurance approval back in November. What a pain! I started my liquid diet yesterday. I wanted to have the weekend to have a couple adjustment days before going back to work. The first day went fine. I'm hoping Sunday will go as well.:)

Yay! 2 more March 3rds and one for Martch 4th! Looks like the first week of March is going to be full of change for many of us.

I'm glad that there will be others going through this "with me" so I can ask questions and be motivated, too. :)

Hi All,

I'm glad there are so many of us around the same date! I had my pre-op appt last Friday and I had a chance to meet with a dietician, a RN, and my surgeon. My surgeon has yet to put me on a liquid diet so I am putting myself on the high Protein slim fast plan for the next two weeks. It was weird because my surgeon hadn't told me that I needed to lose a certain amount of weight before surgery so I've only lost 7 pounds and then at my pre-op she brought it up, like I was just supposed to know! Anyways, I am going to see if I can lose some additional pounds before my surgery date.

My husband also went with me to my pre-op so now he definitely knows how much I weigh- mortifying!!

I went today to Target and was able to find chewable Multivitamins and chewable Calcium tablets- that's what the dietician told me I should take after surgery. I also found out that I will be getting the new REALIZE Band that comes pre-filled so that is nice. I won't have that gap in between surgery and the first fill. Are any of you getting this band? Just wondering since it is fairly new (but FDA approved).

I visited with with dietitian the day I went in for my consultation. It was nice to have all the info up front. Hopefully you feel like you have all the information you need now to feel comfortable.

I need to head out and do some shopping for the chewable Vitamins and Calcium. I was just rereading through the things that I need to have on hand.

Could you tell me how to get my tracker to show up at the bottom of my posts?

Thanks.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
