Hi Guys

I just got back from my first fill. I was sooo excited about it because I had not been feeling any restriction and was hoping to feel SOMETHING after the first fill. Well, It's 4 hours later and I am having no problems drinking Water, Protein Shakes, Jello. I'm very bummed. Feeing NO restriction

I have a question.

1.) Why do I have to stay on full liquids for two days (the PA told me I had to stay on liquids for two days after a fill) if I don't feel any restriction from the first fill? :confused2:

I appreciate your help!

Give it some time, sometimes my fills take anywhere from a couple days to a week after to feel a difference. My doc doesn't require liquids or any restrictions after a fill. He says to be cautious. Good luck.

First of all, it is very unusual to feel any restriction after just one fill and usually takes numerous fills to be at restriction so don't worry just TRY to be patient. I know its hard, I didn't feel anything untill fill number 4. As for the liquids (my doc. only requires one day) I think it is due to the possibility of swelling after a fill.

I had my first fill a week ago and I just started feeling some restriction yesterday. I can still eat more than the cup of food but it is still less than before my surgery or my first fill. Ive read it may take several fills to get to the sweet spot. I look at it as a lifetime of adjustments of fills and possible unfills. I did get 3cc in my 10cc band. Good luck.

I got my first fill last week, 4cc's in a 10cc band, and I have been able to eat more than a cup of food too. Only rarely am I getting the food satisfaction feeling, so I think I need more in there too. I am also eating less than pre band, but feel I should be eating even less.

Fills are a process and each person needs their own special amount in the band because out stomachs are all different inside.

I have felt a little tight after the last few fills even though that goes away quickly, so I guess it's swelling and I'm glad I'm on liquids for a couple days. Besides the liquids for a couple days help the weight loss and that's what I want! I am also advised to go to soft foods for a couple days after the liquids, in case each fill turns out to be THE ONE! If you have good restriction and you progress too quickly, you can irritate the stoma and start getting food stuck, which irritates your pouch even more.

It wouldn't hurt to call your doctor and let him/her know that you are not feeling restriction and ask if it is indeed necessary to do the liquids for the full two days since you are not feeling it ?? They can always say no, but I know how hard it is to stick to liquids so thought I would suggest you try. Good luck. :tongue2:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
