Therapist and Dietitian

Recommended Posts

Hi! Me again!!!

I was wondering if any of you had to go a pretty good distance to get your surgery done? I am going to have to go about 2 hours and that's not too bad. But the dietitian and phsyc appointments... wonder if they can be done locally? I hate to have to drive all that way for that.

I am going to have to drive about 400 miles, I just found out that my insurance wont cover it here locally. I am hoping that all of my records transfer, rather than having to start all over again!

My Dr.'s office/ surgery site is about 1.5 hours from me.. Unfortunately they make you go through their network of people to do nutrition and the psych eval.. They wouldn't allow anyone more local to me.. I know how frustrating this is! Hopefully your Dr.'s office is more lenient with you.. Best of luck to you:)

I had to go to the nutritionist 3x and the pych Doc once, which is standard for here. The nutritionist appts were 4-6 weeks apart, so it wasn't too bad, I feared driving back and forth like 3x a month which luckily didn't happen:)

I had my surgery about 80 miles from my home. It is a 1 1/2 hour one way drive. (Don't tell anyone but I drove myself home from the hospital the day I was released.) I visit the doctor for fills and in all I get up there about once monthly for "band business". I have no problem with it. I believe unless your doc has another office close to where you live, you are stuck with the commute. I would doubt that another doctor would want to take on someone elses' patient for post op.

Hi there. I had my surgery three hours from where I live. I was blessed and was able to see the psych, dietician, exercise consultant, and my initial exam all on the same day. I only had to see the psych once and the dietician once before the surgery. I have seen the dietician an additional time since surgery. Whatever driving you have to do - it is worth it.

WOW! I pray I get as lucky as you!!! :-)

I'm going to see if I can do it all in one day.

Congrats on almost reaching your goal! You must feel amazing!

I think I totally lucked out. My surgeon comes weekly to OUR clinic and hospital. I only had to travel to see psych 45 min away and that was it. As said above, whatever distance you need to travel will be worth it. Good luck with everything!

Well i had my first consult appt today and OMG it was AWESOME!!! I don't have to do the therapist thing (mainly cause i have been in therapy for a number of years already) and they are going to schedule all of my tests and nutritionist appts for the same day so I only have to travel twice counting my surgery!!! I've got an awesome doc. He seems like he really nows what he's talking about and that made me feel sooo much better!!!

Thanks for all your support!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
