well you should have your pre op today, good for you guys. the first couple of days after surgery are uncomfortable with the gas and incisions. nothing that can't be overcome. typically it is hard to sit upright because of both, my port was tender and was for about a month, and the incisions were tender just because of the nature of the bizz. make sure you have some loose waist pants. walk walk walk, it really does make the surgery gas go away/reduce. you guys will do great, it is only a temporary discomfort, plus meds help when needed. g2s

Hi there,

Hope you're doing well. One of my friends who just got her lap band a few days ago is looking for a support group in Las Vegas. Do you have any recommendations?

Thanks,

Lisa

Hey Mikalisa! The only support group I have is the one through my Dr's Office. Have your friend do a search on here too... you never know what you'll find!!!

Hey Yvonne, did you go to the support group last night? I had a team meeting at school, so I will have to wait until next month for the Tuesday group. Just curious how it went.

I just wanted to check in with my Vegas/Henderson Bandsters...

How is everyone feeling- how is the weight loss going???

I am having a grand old time! My face is shrinking and my body can't wait for me to start working out! LOL

I've lost 25lbs since pre-op and am just happy about this decision.

At first I was so worried- I must have asked myself- What on Earth did I just do to myself? a million times, but now I know it's all going to be well worth it. My sister was here visiting from NY and she had Gastric Bypass about 2 years ago. She looks amazing. She's had her Tummy Tuck, Lypo, and a "Big Boob" job! LMAO :huggie:

She's eats so little-it's hilarious. We went to Panda Express for lunch the other day. I had egg drop Soup and she had just this itsy bitsy dish with chicken and stringbeans. We sat down- each with a little dish or bowl on this tray and I started laughing... I said, "look how cute we are with our little dishes". She started laughing and then we couldn't stop! LOL Everyone must have thought we were crazy. But we were just HAPPY to be on this journey together now! :incazzato:

My Mom is coming to visit on Wednesday- I'll be able to eat solids starting Tuesday which works out great. We're also going to Universal Studios, Hollywood for a couple of days. We love California and go every time my Mom comes to visit. Our favorite is San Diego!

I hope everyone is having their own fun and enjoying their journey.

Have a great weekend! :driving:

Doing great! Down 24 lbs (as of last Thursday), which includes a little weight lost pre-op (no prescribed pre-op diet, just excited and started changing eating habits). My clothes are starting to hang on me and I am able to wear some I haven't been able to wear for some time. It's so exciting!

Never any PBs, sliming, vomiting, or anything. One Brussels sprout stuck, but that's it.

Working out more and more. Between walking and balance ball workouts (still avoiding anything where I have to lay on my stomach), I thinking I am doing OK on exercise, but I am looking forward to something a bit more strenuous).

I keep track of everything I eat so I can watch my nutrition and my caloric intake. I am a bit militant about it, but I am OK with that. That's what is making this so easy and so successful!

Loving this!

Hi all, I realize this thread is a little old but I am being banded in Vegas next Friday, 9/27/13. I am looking for support groups in the Henderson \ East Last Vegas area. Can you help me out with some ideas?

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
