Holy crap, I feel sick. What can I do?

Recommended Posts

I'm a month post op and I suddenly feel overwhelmed with nausea and what my son likes to call the bubbly gut.

I haven't been sick at all through this and I think it may be a virus. I'm terrified of dry heaving only 4 weeks out.

I'm at work, an hour and a half from home. Does anybody know of any tricks that may help with the nausea?

:)

Your dr can prescribe anti-nausea meds. I had them post-op and my dr prescribed enough for me to keep them in stock. They disolve in your mouth and really work.

There is a bit of a stomach bug going around. 2 of my 3 kids just came down with it. It seems that 10% of the kids in their school were sent home with it last friday.

Call your dr and have them prescribe something.

I thought of that, but I'm 82 miles from home and in a remote area of DC. I would have to get a ride home (I vanpool) and take the rest of the day off. I was trying to remember all the things that usually help and the first thing that came to mind was gingerale, which I can't have.

There have been several in my office out with this. I wish I had asked ahead of time for Zofran to keep with me. My doctor doesn't even come in for another hour.

I'm a bit of a baby when I'm sick anyway, but now I'm in sheer panic. <SNIFF sniff>

So sorry u feel sick. Maybe if you call the doc he can call in a script for you if you explain the situation.

Sometimes peppermint will soothe the nausea. Like in those little candies.< /p>

Hang in there.

I think I'll try to scround up a mint then. I'm going to call my doc when he opens, but it won't help me today, I'm too far from home/pharm. to get anything unless I leave here sick and even that would probably take 2-3 hours to get a ride and get to the drug store.

Thanks for the support though. I really paniced when that first wave hit me.

This worked for me--find some rubbing alcohol preferably the little packs they should have in the First Aid kit at your work. Open them and put it right under your nose. Take a deep breath in and slowly exhale through your mouth. thats what they did after my surgery and it worked wonders...wish I had known about this trick for morning sickness! HTH and good luck!

Thanks Mikki! I forgot about that trick. We used it on my mom many times when she was in the hospital 2 years ago. I'm going to stock my desk with them. My daughter is a nursing student and brings them home all the time in her pockets.

Luckily, the feeling passed, so I guess my stomach just didn't like the coffee, but I thought for sure I was a gonner.

Ginger (the powdered sort in the spices) or cut a couple slices of ginger root (may be near garlic in grocery store) and sweeten. Both are REALLY good for nausea. Make a tea - just steep in hot Water.

Regards Bosh

Emetrol. liquid over the counter anti-nausea med. I swear by it, anytime I get nauseated (for anything), I take a swig and the nausea is gone instantly.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
