Will I still be able to get rough and wild?

Recommended Posts

I'm up for my banding in less than a week now... but I have a few last minute questions.

I've watched the surgery on the net a few times and I see how they put the band around the top of the stomach then put several stitches in the stomach and secure it and even cover the band with tissue. I know those stitches are done with a tough thread that does not dissolve; my question is, does the stomach eventually grow around the band more than that or is it just that simple stitching that permanently holds the band in place?

The reason I am asking is I don't want my band to slip, I can be careful for a few months or whatever if needed but I can't live the rest of my life that way! I like to wrestle and fight and jump my motorcycle, I like to snow machine and cliff jump and jump out of airplanes now and then. I am a rough guy and I don't want this band to make me have to be careful. I'm not really having second thoughts but I am a bit concerned.

You can be as rough as you want. You won't even know u have it except for when you eat.

My dr said that after the band has been there a while, there is tissue that grows over it, but not in bt the stomach and the band. Meaning that your body forms a protective layer over the top which can actually help it stay in place. The only reason I asked this question was bc I was worried about my body "rejecting" the band or trying to attack it bc it was invasive.

You can be even rougher than before, trust me, after loosing my first 100 pounds I can now take on all 3 of my sons in a wrestling match and win by power, not because of mere weight (sitting on them, LOL). Yes I'm still a tom-boy at my age.

In the beginning you are going to have to watch your port area. But last week one of my sons hit it and I could really feel it. It doesn't hurt too much, just feels really wierd. And it takes a while for the general soreness to go away post-op.

In the next few months I'm starting Tang Soo Do and should be fine. I'm not looking forward to being kicked in the port though.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
