Got surgery date

Recommended Posts

Hi! This is my first time posting. I was just approved for LapBand and my surgery date is March 13th, 2008. My surgeon is Dr. Eid in Pittsburgh. I am a little nervous. I will have a 2 night hospital stay and be off of work for 2-4 weeks. Any words of wisdom or encouragment will be greatly appreciated.

Wow Inoh. A two day hospital stay and 2-4 weeks off from work? Is that typical? I am in the McGee program and I thought the overnight stay was one day and about a week recovery.

Hi,

I got my date of surfery last week. And is March 14th!!! I'm in TX but I think we can support each other in this life changing experience. I am getting more nervous by the minute and a little sacred... but I am really excited because I know that this is the best for me.

I will only spend a night in the hospital and be back at work after a week... but keep me posted on how everything is going...

Giselle

Congratulations on your surgery date. I know you are excited. I was ecstatic when I got mine. I am now 5 days post surgery and loving every minute of it. As for your hospital stay and time off of work, it is depending on your insurance. Some will allow you to stay longer and some MD's programs require you to stay longer. As for me, had my surgery had difficulties and if my surgeon would have had to open me rather than the Lap method I would have had to stay longer. My best friend and I had our surgeries together and our surgeon said he would approve us for up to 23hr stay for lap method if needed. We didn't need it. My surgery was at 6:00am and hers was at 7:00am. She went home @ 3:30pm that afternoon. I had a little more trouble waking up from anesthesia and I left that afternoon @ 5:30pm. Our surgery was 02/07/2008 and I am returning to work on 2/16 and she is on 02/19, just because she doesn't work weekends and gets Monday off for holiday. I think your time you take off all depends on you and how you feel and how demanding physically your job is. Our jobs are not too bad in that department. We are both nurses. Take your time. If your job is hard on you physically you need the time to heal. You don't want to risk a hernia. Best of luck. I am sooo happy you have your date!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
