Attn people who can sew

Recommended Posts

Ok, it's not so much the actual sewing, but the leading up to. I have this 3 tier metal basket thing. I want to make some cloth liners to go in the baskets. I've tried lining it with cloth napkins but they're too big and the wrong shape so I fear I'm going to have to make something. Picture of said thing is attached. I want the liner to kind of overhang between the three points where it's connected to the stand.

What's the easiest, total novice way to go about making some kind of pattern for these liners? I tried just laying in a big piece of muslin, getting it to lay like I wanted, then taking it out but that wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. I tried shaping a big piece of foil, and then straightening it back out, but that seemed really off once I cut fabric to it.

I'm thinking it would basically be a circle (for the interior of the basket) with three triangles spaced evenly around it, for the flap things. Not hard, you'd think, but this is completely eluding me. What should I do?

Could you cut your fabric into triangles? Letting the 3 corners hang over? I think I would experiment with newspaper first to get the right size.

I would cut a round base for the bottom part, and then cut out the band the size of the sides and attach that to the round base, make sure you allow for the seams.

You could make a tube and then tie/gather the bottom with a piece of string. The width of the tube would be the same as your basket and the height of the tube would measure from the center of the basket, up the side and a few inches to overlap the top and to tie in the center bottom.

Be sure to wash the fabric first so it doesn't shrink after you make it. I would recommend a french seam to sew the tube together so the seam doesn't fray. (tiny seam with wrong sides together, then another seam with right sides together to encase the fraying ends in the second seam)

I hope this makes sense.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
