Feb. 13th first appt.

Recommended Posts

My first appointment is scheduled for February 13th. Is there anything you folks would say I should make sure about asking that you wish you had found out early on?

I hope all goes well for you. Do you know if your insurance is going to cover?

I don't know yet. When I made the appointment they told me they thought it did, but when I look at my insurance online it is blank where the bariatrics is listed, so I don't know.

My consult is the 13th too! How exciting, I will be self pay and as far as questions go, I can't think of any I am going to ask because alot of them were answered during the seminar, but who knows I may think of something while I am there....

Good luck!

I am going for the initial consultation. I couldn't make the scheduled seminar.

I am hoping my insurance will pay, but if not I will be a self pay. It's going to happen one way or the other.

Maybe we can all partner up to encourage each other through the process. Where are you all located. I'm in DFW area of Texas.

Girlie, what can you share. I'm full of questions since I couldn't make the seminar.

Like if they require a psych consult, what is involved in that? A few of the posts mention it and some make it sound like its something hard to do so I'm curious about that.

From the first consult until you get scheduled for surgery how long does it take if you are self pay? I know if you go with insurance it can take months and months, but I really don't think my insurance covers it.

Thanks,

T

Wow Wantolose, that would be really quick. I have been jumping through insurance hoops for months now. I have my consult with the nutritionist on Friday and hope to have surgery in March.

Good luck to you!

Wow Wantalose that does sound fast. There's a part of me that would love to have that happen and another part that thinks I want it to take a little longer.

Oh, and where are you going? What doc?

Well tomorrow is the day that will really start things moving.

I got an email yesterday to confirm my appointment and it said "Also, it looks good for your insurance benefits and by your attending this diagnostics appointment will meet one of the insurance requirements!"

I sure hope they're telling me like it really is. As I filled out all the papers it really made me realize just how many years I've been in this battle. No wonder I'm tired!

I hope to hear back from you all as to how your appointments go this week.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
