Can U Feel The LOVE

Recommended Posts

It a great day & nite here at LBT. You can feel the love thats back in every new post... Ok - you caught me I had a glass of wine & am a little "happy" But I still say I feel the love....

Back to the subject at hand...when I do drink which is very seldom, I prefer tonic with vodka or rum & coke. So what is a gal to do about this carbonation thing??? I mean I've read all the post but there doesn't seem to be a definte answer as to if its ok.

Even the dietian notes say that it is because of nausea problems. But I won't do it if there is this possible stomach stretching thing that some have spoke of.

Has there been any further news on this subject from Bandsters that have tried over the months/years?

The carbonation thing is strictly due to the gas bubbles that fill up the pouch is what I have been told. It has nothing to do with harming the band. If you can tolerate the fullness you get with the carbonation then go for it. Just know that you probably won't be able to eat and drink the carbonation without some complications. I have tried to drink a carbonated beverage and then eat too and that was a major NO NO for me.

I like Jamaican Rum Cream over ice or Kahlua on Ice or the NEW Starbucks Liquor on Ice. YUM YUM!! No carbonation there. LOL!!!

AND YES I FEEL THE LOVE!!!!!!!!

I'm thinking if there is the slightest chance that a bit of carbonation could stretch my pouch... I'm not gonna do it! I accidentally took a sip of something with fizzzzz and felt like spitting it back out... so... I stick to the diet ice tea if I need something in a can. I do miss having a beer now and then but I certainly could replace it with one of Penni's drinks. :D

One of our very sucessful bandsters switched to vodka & Cranberry Crystal Light. I realize that doesn't answer your carbonation question, but I'll be trying it cuz she's coming for a visit soon.

Two surgeons told me that carbonation won't hurt the Band, it just causes pain to drink it. A lot of us get a "golfball stuck in our throat" sensation when we eat. When I drink carbonation, that golfball hurts like a... well... like a golfball stuck in my neck.

Thanks everyone.. Great suggestions & I think this may be a case of trial & error. I just love that tonic. So once I am banded - i will probably try it & it may be an error ;0) But Delarla I also love cranberry juice & grapefruit in vodka so I may just have to give up tonic. I sure hope to be banded by Vegas & at least down a few pounds.

Penni- Jamacian rum I may also try ..sounds like dessert - But as for Kahlua, can't do it... it did a number on me yrs ago & well I just can't even think about it.. Have you ever had one of those nights. I was only 24- but boy I remember it well.-yuck!

I have been banded for two years, I can drink carbonated drinks as long as I don't drink to fast.

As far as carbonation eroding your band thats like saying drinking hot liquids will melt the band... it is a personal choice if you can tolerate it , enjoy it....I do.

All I know is my Dr. told me NO MORE CARBONATION ever again..it was in big bold letters on my post op instructions.

SO obviously there is a reason for it ..I'm gonna listen to him

When I asked the nutritionist at my surgeons office why...her answer was there have been studies saying erosion is possible with carbonation so do not take the chance until the studies have been proven correct or incorrect.

Coca Cola will eat the acid buildup off a car battery..have any of you ever tried it? You will be amazed. If it does that to a car battery Hmm..only imagine what it does to our stomachs and our plastic bands ..not wort the risk for me..but to each his own :)

Thank You La Madam for the post also. My nutrianist said no carbonated drinks immediately post-op. But i do agree w/you about the coke. I was more interested in using my tonic Water has a drink mixer and that is definetly carbonated.

Oh my, after 4 days in New Orleans, the last thing I need to discuss is mixed drinks of any kind. Do you all know how many bars and frozen mixed drinks are in that town and all way toooo convenient to the front door. Thank goodness I get a fill on Wednesday, I have to admit I am glad I waited until AFTER the trip. I missed everyone.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
