surgery 2/11 Atenolol

Did anyone have to take Atenolol pre-op? It is a beta-blocker. They told me to take it one week pre-op which I started yesterday but I am not sure why I am taking it.

I am putting a call into the office today.

Atenolol is given to lower blood pressure, and sometimes to slow heart rate. I take it for blood pressure, but this is the first time I heard of someone having to take it prior to surgery. I'd be curious as to the reason they give you when you call.

I called and I was told I had a history of hypertension and it is to protect my heart. Guess it is better to be safe than sorry.

Are you getting nervous? I am. I am from Connecticut. Did you have any pre-op diet or meds to take?

I take it every day, including the day of the surgery. Are you saying the doc. wants you to take it a week before? Do you have hypertension?

Yes, I had to start taking it one week pre-op and on the day of surgery as well as post-op. I called and spoke to the nurse and she said it was because I have a history of hypertension. When is your surgery?

No I am not to nervous yet I will probably be nervous come Sunday and Monday morning. I have never had any type of surgery accept for Laproscopic on my knee. So this will be an expierence. Yes I have to do a liquid diet until I go in. I had to start it on Sat. ten days before. It is ok not so bad I guess. I have four children though so it is hard to cook for them and smell it. I am aloud cottage cheese as long as it is below 15 grams of carbohydrates and sugar free Jello and sugar free pudding and sugar free popsicles. I don't really like those very much though. I bought pizza for my kids last night because my husband was working over and man that sure did smell good. Well good luck with your surgery on Monday. What time is your surgery? Mine is at 10:45 so I have to be there at 7:45am. I am so excited to be thin again. I can't wait.
