Is there something other than surgery to do about the extra skin I will have once I lose the weight? I know losing the weight is way more important. I'm just wanting to know. I'm curious. Are the reconstructive surgeries covered by any insurance or just some? Are there reasons the reconstructive surgery could be considered medically necessary?

The only way that I know of that the surgery is covered by insurance if for medical neccessity, such as rashes, skin infections etc..., but it is possible.

I've been wondering/worrying about the same thing. I am scheduled to have my surgery on 3/3/08 and as the day gets closer it seems some people can't keep from asking me this question. What are you going to do about all that loose skin. Not giving me warm fuzzies. Yet still happy to get banded. THANKS!

I asked my surgeon the same thing and he told me that it really depends from person to person and the amount of elasticity in your skin when you have surgery. He advised that getting up and walking as soon as possible and keeping it up along with being sure you get your Protein and ALL your Water then that will go along way towards helping this situation.

And yes, most insurance companies will only pay if it's medically necessary. Just be sure to go to the doc often if you do find you have excess skin and document everything!

Don't let this be the deterent though, I committed to the surgery with the understanding that I would do what I could and if I had to I would finance the plastic surgery to take care of it. After everything we have all been through we owe ourselves this!

Good luck and take care!

I think the fast food monoliths that brainwash 34% of our nation to eat fattening diets should pay an OBESITY tax to fund treatment, including tummy tucks.

j/k (sorta)

A lot of it is genetics. I have only lost 56 lbs and have loose skin already...

I have lost a lot of weight before and got my insurance to pay for my Tummy Tuck. It was a long and exhausting process..I got denied twice and appealed, I think it took me almost a year to finally get approved. that was for my tummy though, which could cause rash, back problems etc. I think it would be harder for them to cover arms/legs, etc.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
