Jamie,

What made your surgeon decide that you needed your gallbladder out.

Did you have any sympthoms? My doctor gave me an ultrasound last week and he said it looks o.k., so far..

Hey CORGI~I had to get an ultrasound done during my preop tests. Then when I went in to my final consult with surgeon on 2/14/05 he said that I had a rather large gallstone and had to have gallbladder surgery first on 2/18/05 then wait 1 month to recover and then get my band done on 3/18/05. I had been having NO problems at all. It was very unexpected. Dr. said alot of people have gallbladder problems and don't even know it. Some Dr's will do gallbladder surgery and band surgery at the same time and some won't.Mine wouldn't because he said he didn't want to risk infecting my band.

CORGI~ Good luck to you on Friday as well. I will be thinking of you when they push me in to the operating room. (We will go in together okay! ) What time is your surgery and where are you from?

Congrats on your future band. You are going to love it! It will all be so well worth it. It really does change your life. Keep reading and ask all the questions you have now. Prepare your icebox and pantry for the liquid diet and write down the foods that appeal to you for the mushie stage. Refried Beans are great for mushies and loaded with Protein. You will be a bit sore after surgery but it goes away pretty fast. Good luck and keep us posted after surgery.

Thanks Future slim me~ I really appreciate the food suggestions. I think I'm pretty stocked up on all I'll need on the liquids for sure and I've got a good bit for mushies. I will get some refried Beans. I love them from Taco Bell with the cheese on top.

I'm getting anxious wish it was Friday. I know it will be here soon enough.

4 days to go!!!!

Jamie if I already told you this, excuse me, but you remind me of how I felt before my big day. The AM of surgery my mom asked if I was nervous, I said, not a bit, I was so psyched and READY. I'm truly happy your big day is getting closer and closer. What's going to be your last fatty food?

Well harley nana~ I've been doing so good I've been really trying to talk my self out of pigging out this last few days.... But if I could go get a big steak with twice baked potatoe I would be in heaven. I've been pretty much been eating salads and Protein Drinks and Soup since my gallbladder surgery and I've done good losing weight but that steak is calling my name. I will be on Clear Liquids Thursday so I guess wednesday night I'M HAVING STEAK HAHA!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
