Post-Op "Diet" question...

Recommended Posts

Hey all, hope you are doing well - I have a question about post op "diet". My surgeon's post op food requirements are this:

4 days clear liquids- done

10 days full liquids - tomorrow's day 8

14 days pureed foods - can't wait lol

My question is - I am only eating like MAYBE 300 (at the very most - very high end of the spectrum) calories a day - does that seem low? What is everyone else at?

Currently on full liquids my meals are basically this:

Breakfast - 1/2 cup Protein shake made w/ skim milk

lunch/dinner (same for each meal) - 1/2 cup cream Soup strained & 1/4 cup Fat Free pudding OR 1/2 cup yogurt & 1/4 cup Fat Free pudding.< /p>

I don't snack in between.

Any thoughts? Where are you guys at with yours?

Thanks

Ang.. I was very low on my caloric intake as well. I probably still am (finally on mushies). When I was on liquids I would strain veg Soup or drink a campbells soup at hand. Not many calories there. I was very lethargic all the time. I was pretty bad about my Water intake also. I have always drank a lot with my meals, so I just don't think about it between meals. Really hard adjustment for me.

Now that I am on mushies I blend slasa and pinto Beans and sprinkle cheese on top. Soooo good. Still not a ton of calories. But better than the measly 300 I was getting on liquids.

I wouldn't worry unless you feel dizzy or sick. Just keep doing the best you can.

I do about the same. I cant eat Slim fast or Boost stuff anymore :frown: so I eat 1 or 2 cup of creamy soup, 1 cup of Jello and 1 cup of yogurt and a couple of coffee cup.... per day and that's all. I will be on mushie food in 2 days... I cant wait!

Wonton Soup without the wontons was a good alternative. Once on mushies, I lived with cottage cheese and greek yogurt. I made my own Pea soup from split peas, onions and shredded (in the magic bullet) 4oz of ham, and let the whole thing simmer for a few hours. High Protein, low fat and it filled me up good.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
