The night before surgery

Recommended Posts

Hey everybody, I'm pretty new to the board. . .my doc's office actually mentioned this sight. Anyway, I'm getting the surgery on Feb. 13. I started my liquid diet a couple of days ago, however, I did cheat tonight for a Superbowl party. . .anyway, I'm pretty sure I'll be good from here until surgery without any problems.

So I'm really curious to how the banded people were the day/night before surgery? What were your nerves like? What kind of thoughts went through your head. . .What should I expect?

I was sooooo nervous!! I kept wondering what I would do if this didn't work and wondering how I would look if I wasnt fat. I had always told myself that I would be pretty if I was only thin, but the night before surgery, I agonized what i would do if i lost weight and i was ugly..i know this sounds sooo self centered, but thats how i felt. I wasnt too concerned with the actual surgery, because it is really so simple, I was worried about my life after the band

I can really seeing myself being a lot like that. I've got a feeling that I'm going to be hungry as heck & won't be able to sleep much. I'm already worried that this thing might not work, but I'm trying to have some faith. 100lbs ago, I was a pretty descent athlete & I'm really looking forward to being in the physical shape to start competing again.

I just imagine that night before as being INSANE for me! 9 days to go & I've already got a ton of anticipation.

my banding is tomorrow- and I'm actually just now getting nervous. I'm mostly excited. Luckily I have a great support system that is here for me.

I was so excited the night before. I thought it would be the start of my healthy life. my brother came in from texas to help me out since he had the surgery a year before. he was a great help. it was nice to have someone who had been through it in my corner.

good luck to all of you!

it isnt easy but it is great.

I am more nervous now as I tend to stress. My day is set for the day after yours and I think there are a few more of us Feb week 11-15 out there.

We can do this!

The night before surgery I was in a hotel room with my (then fiance), and drinking magnesium citrate. I was so worried about explosive poos that night, and waking up early enough (5am scheduled), didn't think anything of the surgery.

I was excited and nervous all at once! Dreading the early morning wake up...but knew I would soon be knocked out for a little while. I was just so excited to start my new life...and to get the ball rolling! You'll be fine, lots of luck to you!

This is my night before surgery! It's kind of surreal, like I can't believe that tomorrow I'm going somewhere and ALLOWING someone to cut me! I think I'm freaking myself out though, because I started thinking my throat hurts and I can't tell if it actually does or if I'm just being nervous me.

I've spent most of the day reading about lap band and relaxing with my husband. We didn't really know what to eat for dinner. ;)

Anyway, good luck on your surgery on the 13th... !!

I second guessed myself roughly 900 times the day/night before surgery. I was on a clear-liquid diet... and the two people who accompanied me (we had to stay in a hotel, as my surgeon's office is 2 hours from home.. and I had to be on the hospital at 5:30 a.m.. Oh, and I had to spend the day before doing the whole 'body flushing' thing, if you know what I mean.) had to eat... so I encouraged them to get a pizza. I have NEVER in my life wanted to eat soooo badly. I swear I SERIOUSLY considered throwing the whole surgery out the window just because I wanted that danged pizza soooo badly and I was bemoaning the fact that I wouldn't get to eat so many of the foods that I loved (that made me a fat cow in the first place).

By about 10 pm., though, I was okay.. and was ready and eager to get to the hospital and get things going. The morning couldn't come soon enough. I was actually excited the morning of surgery and everything couldn't have gone smoother.

Indyguy- Okay, I'm officially one day post op. I'm shocked I'm able to sit up and type. Yesterday and this morning were pretty much pain filled... but I've stopped taking the narcotics they gave me and had my husband get me some liquid tylenol. It's better because it doesn't make me nauseaus (however you spell that). The nausea was worse than the pain. I'm shocked at how often I use my tummy muscles!

It was hard finding a position that was comfortable to sleep in. I finally found sitting on the couch with my legs on the coffee table comfy. If you have a lazy boy, it might be your best friend. :scared2:

Anyway, all in all, I guess I'm okay. The pain today is less than the paid yesterday. Oh, and after surgery, don't laugh, cough, sneeze. They all hurt too. :wink2:

It will go just fine!!! Let me know how you are when you're up to it!

Very true...I had to baby my cough and prayed that I didn't sneeze. The second day after my surgery I was at my sister's house (she had Kim-duty) and my cousins were over...we were playing monopoly or something and I couldn't stop laughing. I kept holding my stomach so it wouldn't hurt that bad. lol Even a few weeks after, the laughing sometimes hurt.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
