Long, Strange Trip...

Recommended Posts

Greetings All--

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile. I ran into some serious problems a few days after surgery and was very sick for a couple of weeks. I'm pleased to say that all seems to be well now. I am into mushies and scheduled for my first fill 2-15. The problem is one I have had several times in the past. It is not related to the band, but it did affect my digestive system and I have really been through some "stuff." The worst part was some serious heaving/vomiting (my worst fear) just a few days after surgery. My docs were great and really helped me through. They checked out the band and said it looks great-- quite a relief.

I get hungry, but also get full faster and am working on stopping at the first sign of satiety. That's foreign to me as I am used to blowing right through that stop sign and stuffing myself. Mushies have been quite a treat, especially since I barely even had Clear liquids during the time I was ill. Anybody have any recipes they particularly like?

Hope everyone is doing well-- you're all knockouts!

Jim

Hi Jim,

I'm sorry to hear you had such a bad time. Glad you are doing better. I just thought you were doing so well you didn't need us anymore:) Glad you are better. I go for my first fill on the 27th. I'm not sure I want one though. I seem to do well on three small meals a day and don't want to be so tight I get all the bad stuff thay talk about. So if I keep loosing 1-2# a week, I think I'll see how it goes. I have a 10cc band and they put 3cc in at the time of surgery. So, I'm not sure if I need more or not. I'm so glad you are feeling better. Diane

Really? You have your first fill less than half a month after surgery? Doesn't that seem a bit.. soon? Seems a bit soon to me. I don't get to go to see my doc for my first fill until like 5 weeks after my surgery date....

Jim, glad you are feeling better and that your band is doing okay! Welcome back we missed ya!

I got my first fill just shy of 1 month and go back on 2/15 probably for a bit more. Every doc is different. I am glad I got it because I was getting very hungry.

Jim, glad you are feeling better, the complications only make you persevere and stronger. That was my attitude throughout all my strange complications.

I was banded in 1/15/08 and 2/27/08 is my 1st fill appt. Thats 6 weeks silly, not 2:)

hah! I forgot it was February already. Silly me! This is what happens when you're off work recovering - I had no concept of date/time while I was at home relaxing. Good luck with your fill at the 6WEEK mark hehe.

Hey Jim! I was wondering where you went since you posted a lot and then just disappeared! First I thought that you were too busy with stuff to post, but I figured you would pop in once in a while to say hello so I started to worry that something had happened. And apparently something did happen, but glad to hear that it's been mostly resolved and that you're feeling better!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
