lawbebe 0 Posted February 3, 2008 I had my 2nd fill on 1/29/08..My Dr put in 1cc if I recall..she had me stay and drink 1 cup of Water after, which went down fine.. I cannot eat any solids still..does this mean I am to tight? I can do shakes and soups..yesterday am I took a tiny tiny piece of egg..chewed n chewed..and it got stuck.. this am..I took a tiny piece of inner grape..(I could not resist) chewed it..it got stuck.. I ended up throwing up the warm liquid I drank after (just water)..my Doc said to stay on liquids for up to 2 weeks (she said some people need to)..will this get better? I really want to chew something.. I am going to Disneyland in a few weeks.. and don't want to get stuck down there.. I have lost 6lbs since Tuesday.. Any suggestions ideas will be great!! Alfie 58 Posted February 3, 2008 Hi I would think that if you lose some more weight within the next few weeks (which you should at this rate) the fat by your band will decrease thus loosening your band so yes I do believe it will get better.

KarenG. 0 Posted February 4, 2008 If your doctor thinks you would be ok just stay on liquids. I am always really swollen so the first 2 weeks after a fill I can't eat much - after about 2 weeks it gets better. Good luck!

NYgirl01 0 Posted February 5, 2008 I was in the same situation a few days ago. I was like that for about 2 weeks but it got worse. I got to the point that I could not even swallow my own saliva. I had to go to the doctor as an emergency on Sunday and because it was tight for so long (I have a 14 cc band and was on 7.5 cc's) they had to lower me to 6.5. Be careful. I got dehydrated. Frustrated 1 Posted February 5, 2008 I got a fill on Friday and I haven't been able to have anything solid since then. But I'm okay with that because I'm not hungry. So long as you're not getting dehydrated you'll be fine. What I do when I miss chewing is get some sugar free gum and go through that. I sometimes go through a LOT. When you start back on solids, go to mushies first; yoghurt, cottage cheese, mashed potato, oatmeal. And only after those go down without any problems, start on the more chewy foods like eggs or grapes.
ocCAgurl 0 Posted February 5, 2008 Hi frusterated....This one's for you: from my understanding with the lapband, you are not suppose to chew gum at all after being banded because the air from chewing stretches your pouch? Please advise......
Frustrated 1 Posted February 5, 2008 Hi frusterated....This one's for you: from my understanding with the lapband, you are not suppose to chew gum at all after being banded because the air from chewing stretches your pouch? Please advise...... I wasn't told that. But then I'm 6 months out from my surgery, I wouldn't have done it immediately after. I remember telling my surgeon's nurse that I missed chewing a lot and that I'd taken up gum chewing. She told me that so long as I didn't swallow the gum, I should be fine. But most definitely speak to your own surgeon about it.
Lori Ann 0 Posted February 5, 2008 I have had several fills and the last 2-3, I have experienced the same thing....real tight for a week or so and then it slowly loosens up. My doctor told me that the fat pad around the stomach starts to go away as you lose weight and the band loosens....that's why we have to have fills......to tighten and continue to lose weight. I got my last fill 2 weeks ago, and I am just starting to be able to eat a little solid food....only if I chew, chew, chew. My doctor has me on liquids for 2 days after a fill (absolutely nothing solid in the soups). Hang in there....it will get better slowly. Now that I am at goal....there isn't much of a fat pad left....so this time I have remained really tight for a long time. You can always have a slight unfill if you are not comfortable......Remember, you need to always make sure you can drink lots of Water or you are in grave danger of dehydration.
