4 Days post-op Need help.

Recommended Posts

I am sore as well, 4 days out but I mean I don't think that is abnormal at all. I've never had surgery before so I figure my body is still wondering what the heck I did to it.

I've only been able to do about 1 Protein Shake a day, and I have to split it up. I'm drinking lots of Water, Protein water, apple juice, and Jello. Today I had some chicken Soup broth and it was wonderful.

I am not banded yet but read in all of the books I have read that we should stay away from milk. Not milk products like yogurt, etc. but milk itself! Has anyone heard this?

Hi guys,

I was banded 12/18/08 and am doing good with weight loss, but i need some help. when i eat i can eat probable up to 2 cups of food. Not at every meal, but maybe once a day. What my question is, is do you think i will stretch my pouch. That scares me. I have not had a fill yet, but i can certainly eat more that the 1/2 cup or whatever.

Will people please give me some feedback on this. Do you really ever know if your pouch is stretched? And will it effect you after you start to get your fills?

Thanks guys, I appreciate any input.

April

I was banded on 1/25/08 and feel almost completely healed. The incisions are itchy as all get out, but I am over the gas pains, can sleep on my side and/or stomach the last 2 nights. I was able to start creamed liquids the first week according to my doctor. I did, however, drink one bottle of Isopure (GNC - 40 grams of protein) each day, along with 20 grams of Protein Shake. The Isopure does NOT taste the best, but I had read on this site to add some crystal light and it makes it more palatable. I never felt hungry or over tired when I ate all of the recommended Protein. I am now 9 days post-op and walked 2 1/2 miles today. No more feelings of pulling or like I am ripping my stitches out if I lie on my side. Just try to look beyond the first week. That really helped me. There are so many SUCCESS STORIES on this site. Keep reading and they will can be your inspiration. YOU CAN DO THIS! Taking the step to have surgery took a lot of courage. Good luck. You'll do great!

I haven't been banded for very long..since Oct. but I just now got some restriction after fill #3. I too could eat waayy more than I thought I should...my doc said don't worry about it....until you get restriction you really don't have a "pouch" so to speak. 2 cups sounds like not alot..I was able to eat that much..Now after three fills it's down to like 3/4 of a cup and I am good. Do you also get hungry fast after eating...I did, but now that is better too! hang in there!

reply to the original poster...don't worry too much about protien only a few days out...you are healing. Clear Liquids, broth etc. follow your doctors diet. You will be on protien shakes before too long. And I remember how HUNGRY I was for WEEKS (I was on liquids for 3 weeks!) Hang in there!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
