I had my first appointment, with Dr Bowen's nurse today. It went really well. She said I'm an excellent candidate and then booked me in to see Dr Bowen next month. After that I just have to wait til a month or so before the op to see the dietitian and then I'm away!

I will have to go back in 4 months or so to get another referral because they only last for 6 months and mine will run out before I can have the op but that's OK. I'll get that no problems.

Sunwyse

I saw Blair yesterday. He's very quite spoken. Very informative and encourages you to ask lots of questions.

Unfortunately I'm self pay so the bill he handed me was for over $20 000. I've heard he's one of the most expensive but he's close to me and I've heard good things about him. 4 weeks til op date.

Yeah, they gave me a piece of paper with costs on it and it comes to $10,500 after health insurance and medicare. There's no way I can save that kind of money by October. I would have to look at taking out a part loan, which is not necessarily a no-no. I'm going to look around at other doctors in the time being and see if I can get it cheaper else where. I do believe in paying for quality, but I don't believe on selling my soul for it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
