WARNING: Dont Go To Mom's House For Supper!!!

Recommended Posts

OK, Ive been doing pretty good lately. Eating decent size meals, lots of Water, no eating after 8pm... done so well that Ive even broken that little plateau I was on. Hadnt even PB'd in about 4 weeks.

UNTIL... Thursday!!

Mom called and invited us over for supper. Yummm - I love going there to eat, better then any restaurant!

So, we get there, I fix our food and sit down to eat and - OH NO!!!! Major restriction. (PMS)

But the PIG in my just couldnt resist eating. So I ate. Of coarse you know what happened... ended up having to PB. Then had the reflux when it was time for bed.

Its been down hill ever since.

PB'd yesterday, and again today.

Just when I was getting the hang of this new fill (new - being 3 months ago) now I have to start all over again.

If only I wouldnt have eaten at Mom's.... (sigh)

Paula this cracked me up. It is all that good cooking that we just can't resist. Gotta have a bite of this and a bite of that and pretty soon we are full only we haven't finished taking all our bites. LOL!!

Drink fluids for the next couple of days girl. Give your stomach and esophagus a rest. I feel your pain.

Hi Paula,

I just had to add that I can definitely relate. I did this about a month ago when my boyfriend and I went to dinner at Outback. I was enjoying my 7 oz filet so much, I just didn't want to stop even though I knew I had reach my capacity. I had a PB episode in the restroom before we left and a couple more in the car on the way home. Has anyone else out there made a habit of carrying (in their car) a plastic bowl w/ lid stuffed with paper towels???? I keep it right under my car seat, so that I can reach it easily if I happen to need it. My BF was so upset with me. He just doesn't understand how much I enjoy food sometimes and just want to keep eating even when my band says... NO WAY!!!

I think it will just take me time to get use to this new way of living and to break all those bad habits that have been with me for more than 30 years. Luckily, I haven't had any PB episodes lately. I know how bad they are and I am thankful everyday that passes without a problem.

I think I am noticing that I have more restriction when I am on my cycle and PMSing... Like today, it was difficult to eat two thins slices of cheese wrapped around two thin slices of lunch meat... But, give me some candy or chocolate and I won't have any problems at all. FIGURES!

Have a great day!

A.

Paula, you ought to have dinner at my mom's house. She eats dandelion greens (picked from her front lawn) with undercooked brown rice & raw garlic with a mushy black banana (even past the brown stage) for dessert. Trust me, you won't PB cuz you won't go near the stuff.

PB means productive burp. That's a nice way of explaining a really painful thing that happens to us when we eat too fast, or chew too big of a bite. Suddenly you get this pain in your neck/throat/chest and whatever you are eating or drinking gets stuck. Then slime comes back out of your mouth and then you sort of heave up the thing that was stuck. We all have different ways of explaining it, but we all agree that it's no fun.

DH around here usually means Dear Husband, while less loving wives say Di*k Head.

Why is it that Mom's food just tastes so much better than anyone elses?

WHY is that???? Just like Penni said - a bite here, a bite there - THEN its time to fix yourself a plate.

And it was gumbo too, chicken gumbo (like soup)! The last 3 times Ive eaten gumbo, Ive pb'd. Maybe its the roux that bothers my stomach.... ??

Id hate to have to put that one on my "Do NOT Eat" list.

Mom's House is always comfort food. Growing up, mom use to fix any problem with her cooking. Sorry to here Paula the gumbo moved over to the do not eat list. It sounded good.

Hope you are feeling better Paula. Mumm Gumbo heard it is good but have not tried it.

I have been cheating when I get to the point that I should not take that next bite, I actually do I chew and have a napkin handy and spit it out. (How gross) but It gives me a moment to think what is going to happen if I swallow. Then I have to leave the table or toss my unfinished plate into the trash.

I was so afraid I would end up pbing this weekend while on my trip to New Orleans. They didn't give discounts at the buffet, and my DH couldn't by himself, so I paid $18.95 for a crab/tomato,onion/mushroom omlet, it was to die for. Then there was that itsy bitsy piece of carrot cake that I had to taste. I was beating myself up pretty bad over those nibbles, then I remembered I wasn't on a diet, I just had to eat little bits. I think I'll wait until my fill on Wed to weigh, prob had a few too many cocktails. I was so proud of myself, I chewed the heck out of every bite, for fear of the PB. I only had a minor pb and that was because I waited too long to eat.

I usually know as soon as I've swallowed something that didn't get chewed quite enough it's coming back.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
