Hi. I'm Mindy. I've been thinking about having the Lap-Band procedure done for a while now, and today I made my appointment for the education session. I go on Feb 27th. I'm very eager. I'm not exactly sure what to expect, but I know this is the road I want to take to battle my obesity. Ive tried all the fad diets. Tried weight loss shakes, pills, Soups, drinks, etc. I used to take phentermine, and sure it helped for a while, but then I had two babies back to back. Cutting that med cold turkey I believe was my biggest downfall. I'm hopeful about this journey. Im at the stage in my life where Im sitting there with a fridge full of junk, looking at the things that once I loved to eat, and found comfort in.......and all I can see now is my worst enemy. I have kids to think about.....I want to watch them grow. I have a husband I adore, and who I want to grow very old with. The way life is going right now, none of those hopes and dreams will happen, unless I take control today. I'm here to seek advice and support from those who are embarking on the same journey, or those who are living proof of the positive outcome. I have a tremendous support system within my family, but sometimes a perfect stranger can make you feel that theres a complete unbias response behind their words. I hope thats true with this group. I myself, will try to do my best to be positive for anothers in here. I look forward to sharing this with you all. oXo:tongue:

Hello Mindy,

Welcome to Lapband Talk...this is a wonderful support group...you will find lots of kind people that will help you with your journey...congrats on your decision to have lapband...I can tell you that this is the best tool you will ever have...you still have to work and exercise, but the band will make you behave...I was banded in 4/07 and I have lost 72 lbs...I could not be happier with the results...I exercise 7 days a week...no excuses...you have to exercise...and I eat less than a half a cup per meal..I use to eat a half a cup, but after last fill, I can't even eat a half a cup....I was a self pay...insurance denied me two times...I paid $15,000.00 and I would do it all over again...I love my band...

anyway...please let us know how you are doing...and if you have any questions, feel free to ask...

Diann From Texas

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
