1st day home after surgery

Recommended Posts

Well after months of research and finding a way to pay for it, I'm happy to report I was banded yesterday!

I'm at my parents recovering, sore but doing well otherwise.

Hope everyone else is doing well who was just banded.

Congrats on your surgery! Good place to be recovering - home! Let everyone wait on you hand and foot, since you may never get the chance again. Good to have the support. Take care!

Congrats on your decision!

I was banded Wednesday and you will be amazed how quickly you feel better. Yeah, you'll have some post-surgery stuff, but I've had 6 surgeries and this was by far the easiest for me.

Best to you!

Hi Everyone,

I am not very good with these message board things, but I was banded on 1/31. I did GREAT that day-got home by 5PM. Now I have had several sore days, but the biggest problem is an INTENSE pain in my left shoulder. I sometimes can't breathe because it is SO sharp.

BTW UGA girl-I went to UGA-GO DAWGS.

It's gas from the CO2 used to pump up the thorax to do the surgery. It passes 2 days-2 weeks, I read. I feel it in my shoulders. Ws told to walk as much as I can and take gas x strips for relief. It's in discussion in a thread under pre and post op called "I finally figured it out."

I just received this in that thread..

This thread is located at:

Here is the message that has just been posted:

GAS-X STRIPS WORK!! If all else fails, do some very gentle knee bends and small stomach crunches. And, believe it or not, sit on the toilet and have a nice bottle of bubbles. Blowing bubbles uses the same muscles that cause you to release gas (and have a BM, thus the toilet). Usually helps! (I'm a spec ed teacher and have had to use this technique w/ kiddos at school... and w/ myself after surgery!!!!) Enjoy!

Thanks for all the messages and yes-GOOOOOOOO DAWGS!

I echo the gas-x strips. A GODSEND if you ask me. Also-use a heating pad on your tummy. I am so in love with mine right now. I have had very little *knocks on wood* gas pain. I've been walking a lot, even if it's just 5-10 minutes at a time and around in circles. I felt good enough to get out today and walk about half a mile around my parents neighborhood and it was wonderful to get some fresh air!

I am still really sore when I go from laying down to getting up in a sitting position. The two times I've tried to lay on my side have been terribly painful so I'm sleeping on my back which I've never done...so that's been a little tough. I'm taking my pain meds when I get really uncomfortable and just chilling out.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
