Why would we be interested in an American clinic, in AMERICA, when we're Canadian? What's closer to Ottawa and Toronto than Ottawa and Toronto? If you have a great clinic to tell us about, just do it! Geesh.

In case you weren't aware ARGON, Canadians come to the U.S. all the time for surgery. In addition, as far as I know, there are no lap band surgeons in the Ottawa area. Now you can continue to drive hours and hours to get your procedure, but maybe there are those less obnoxious who want a closer option.

Most of the people who go to the US for wls are the ones who are covered by OHIP for RNY or DS. They don't want the long wait for surgery here. Since most bandsters are self pay in Canada makes more sense to be banded in Canada especially for aftercare. That being said, some do go out of country if they can get banded a lot cheaper but I prefer here. Are you banded Petey?

I like driving, yes.

Tell us about this clinic Petey.

It's just weird when someone joins up and their first post sounds like an advertisement is all... ya know?

:thumbup:There are Canadians that go south but there are Americans that come north to the TLBC. So I guess it is preference. Personally I would want to be in my own country because of our health care system if anything went wrong. I have heard that private medical insurance is not to keen to pay up for patients that have "pre existing condition". Well anyoneoverweight usually has high blood pressure at least. That covers every possible illness you could get such as heart attack, stroke, which does occur in surgery. So personally I recommend Canadians stay in Canada and American can come here. They would be covered by our medical system as well even though not a resident.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
