I was banded on January 7th and like many of you I have been struggling. I think I've been following the rules as best as I can. I had gained three lbs and felt just defeated. I started questioning everything. But then I read a great post on here and felt reinspired. I had to tell myself, relax. It's only been three weeks since I've been banded. Most of us chose the band for a more controlled weight loss but when we get the band and we aren't loosing fast enough we complain. I've been exercising 4-5 times a week doing cardio and weight training. I've just started to track my diet on sparkpeople.com.

So to all my fellow January 2008 bandsters. Hold on in there - I'll meet you at the end of the tunnel.

I'm glad this has helped you. So many of us are claiming defeat when we haven't even really started. Let's start proclaiming our success. I want to hear everyone who has been banded in January shouting that out. Bandster's hell is no joke, but it'll be over soon.

Good post! I was banded on 1/10/08, and within 2 weeks, I lost 17 #. Once I started introducing soft foods to my diet, I have lost only 1 # in 10 days! And that includes adding in my minimal exercise this week. It is is frustrating, because I feel like I have hardly any restriction, and I don't get a fill until the end of February. I need to be happy just maintaning my weight loss until my first fill.

Hey all,

I too have been seeing slower weight loss since banding. I have searched LBT, and talked to my nurse. I do not have any restriction to speak of, I just have not been eating much and really watching what I eat. What I have found, is that after banding there will not be much restriction and there is not usually big weight losses during this time. Some people even gain. I felt so much better knowing this. My nurse was impressed that I have done as well as I have before my first fill. These first 6-6 weeks are for healing, then after first fill you really lose. I was feeling like a failure again until I really dug and asked my nurse.

Hope this helps, I sure wish I had known this a few weeks ago.

This is absolutely true. I think that because I, and maybe lots of y'all, have experienced so many failed diets we set ourselves up for disappointment. I have to keep reminding myself that this is different.

yep me too... very slow. keep trying to remind myself it's about healing right now, the fills and weight loss come later.

Everytime I read your messages I feel much better. I too was banded in January and feel that now I am just waiting for my 6 weeks to be up so that I can get a fill as I am feeling little restriction and not losing any more #'s since a week ago.

Keep posting your thoughts as they help everyone!

Thanks, Nicole

Hang in there gang, what you're experiencing is normal, remember, unless your doctor added a smidgen of fill during surgery, you're empty and for a reason, you're still healing!

Now is the time to get your head where it needs to be, remember the band is your friend and a tool, it's up to you to make the right choices.

I do not eat bread, rice, or potatoes of any kind, three years later and I don't even attempt the above. I try not to eat anything "white". I don't like yogurt or cottage cheese or milk, so it hasn't been a problem for me, LOL.

Good luck to all of you!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
