Plateaus!!!!!! HELP!!!!

Recommended Posts

OK...how long does the weight loss stall last?? I was eating a lot more and not exercising and losing...I got a fill that started working...quickly dropped another 10 pounds and then stalled out. Im stuck for a week and a half and actually gained a pound or two from my lowest. I am eating a TON less AND exercising. How long should I expect this to last? Its really bringing me down.

What works for me is to trick my body. Tomorrow eat a lot more calories. Right now your body is thinking you're starving. So it is trying to hold on to your "fat". It seems to help me. But see what everyone else does... That is just me

another bandster post this I tried it and it work!!!

OK so I've been "plateau'd" for 2 weeks now and still a little over a week away from my 2nd fill so I thought I'd try this plateau busting diet ... Has anyone else tried it and does it work?? When it says 45g Protein supplement, is that in addition to the high Protein foods listed?? Anyone know?

How to break a plateau

#1 - Do this for 10 days to break a plateau

#2 - Drink 2 quarts of Water a day

#3 - You must have 45 grams of protein supplement and all your

vitamins/minerals supplements each day

#4 - You may consume up to 3 oz of the following high protein foods,

5x a day

beef

pork

chicken

turkey

lamb

fish

eggs

low fat cheese

cottage cheese

plain yogurt or artificially sweetened (?)

Peanut Butter

beans/legumes

You may also have:

sugar free popsicles

tea or coffee

sugar free soda

sugar free Jello

broths/bullion (sp?)

crystal light drinks

#5 - If it's not on the list, you can't have it for 10 days!!!!

#6 - Keep a food diary and try to get up to 30 mins of exercise daily<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

This is going to sound stupid... but, I eat way less than that now... how will that help? If I did that for 10 days... I think I would gain 2 pounds. That looks like it's almost 2000 calories... are you sure it's 5 times a day?

I feel your pain (look at my signature line - I gained, too). I will tell you that Bob Greene's book says that when you start exercising your muscles hang onto Water for a while. He says that he doesn't even let his clients weigh themselves for a month after they start a vigorous exercise program, because the y get all freaked out and quit. So, I'm hoping for the best and staying on track.

My calories vary between 900 and 1300 a day, with an average of about 1100. I KNOW I CANNOT gain fat doing that. Whatever is going on with the Water, etc. is just going to have to sort itself out. Also, although I am not losing pounds right now, people are noticing a change and I am losing inches. So, who cares about the scale (other than as a science project)?

Hang in there and expect a big drop soon.

watch your sodium it makes you body hold water weight, I seen on the Discover Channel if you take a laxative it will reduce the water weight that the sodium holds (but consult your Dr. first)

Yep I always keep my sodium under 2000 (I have high BP) and try to keep my potassium near 3000. I never take laxatives. There's nothing wrong with your muscles holding Water. It's their response to stimulus. You just have to wait it out and not freak out over the temporary weight gain. It's not fat.

I've been exercising like a crazed woman so I don't gain during this plateau period. It IS freaking me out. I've never been so committed to a diet before. I don't eat a lot of salt. My hands and feet don't even swell anymore. They look great. My rings are falling off, and some of my shoes are too big, so I know the Water retention is much improved. Would water aerobics make your muscles hold more water than normal?

I have been on a plateau for a month now and I am really starting to get discouraged. I have changed my exercise routine (changed intensity, type, and time) and I have varied my calories as well. I am eating healthy 95% of the time and I am exercising 5-7 days a week faithfully. I just don't know what more I can do. I tried doing the phase I of South beach but after 4 days I hadn't lost anything and I had massive headaches and NO energy so I went back to eating my carbs.

I had a fill a month ago and I am hungrier than ever but I am having some "stuck" episodes. I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with hoodia??

My plateaus were lasting anywhere from 3-5 weeks. I just got used to it. I stay the same (this is a good thing...not to gain!) and then all of a sudden I will lurch down a few pounds and level off again. I am not looking at plateaus as "defeat" anymore. In my former "pre-band" life, I would have used a plateau as an excuse to quit and would have been really bummed. For some reason my attitude has changed. Probably because I KNOW I can keep it off now.

Be careful with all the Protein. You can have too much protein. Believe me that is not a good thing. Been there done that. It is hard for your body to digest 45 extra grams of protein unless you are a body builder. too much protein will put a strain on your kidneys. Just be careful and exercise enough to use the extra protein.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
