Type II Diabetes Diet with LapBand?

Recommended Posts

It is VERY tough for me to lose weight. Insulin was proven necessary for control of my A1c level, a more solid measure than blood sugar.

My overall 'diabetic management' has improved with 2 additions:

1) the Lap Band installed 2004;

2) using a cooperative medical internist as my Primary Care doc, as the Gen Practitioners didn't have enough experience with the kind of complex case I present.

Don't give up, just dig in and continue to search until you find whatever it takes to CONTROL the diabetic process.

A big help along the way was visiting the nutritionist now & again.

Cheers on y our journey.

NEED HELP! I had lap band almost 3 years ago and was not taking any meds. When I finally got around to getting my blood work done, it was all too high. Started taking metformin again, which did not work to lower my levels. Then I added Januvia, which did not work at all. Stopped that and started Glimeperide which made my gain about 10lbs very quickly. I was so frustrated I went back to my PCP and we are trying Byetta. Still I have not lost any weight and am very frustrated. the last time I saw my Bariatric Surgeon he told me he did not want to adjust me any further because I'm already at 9.5cc and I have an 11cc band. what are you guys eating to maintain sugar and lose weight?

on Septembe 7, 2014 I had my 7 year lapBand anniversary. I have a 4cc band which has just a little over1 cc of Fluid in it. I have been off medication for 6 years. I have kept off over 100 lbs for six years u have not lost any real weight in a long time. I could stand to lose another 50 lbs but I am happy with my quality of life.

Very true, the only problems I had with the 4 cc band has been my fault.

Really too bad that after a few years folks leave this forum.

Forgot to mention that in August I changed to an overly cautious internest who freaked when my previous ac1 taken in January came back at 8.0 after 5 years of AC1 under 6.5. Note to self never have your blood test in January following all those wonderful goodies.

He put me back on Metformin glucophage which is ok for me because I lost most of my weight when I was taking metformin because for me metformin is an appetite suppressant. Mean while the The blood work taken the day he put me back on metformin was 5.8.

Really is my own fault I know what works for me I just need to step up and do it.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
