Getting off the insulin pump

Recommended Posts

I have an insulin pump, which has given me excellent control, but I take a hefty dose of insulin. I heard tonight that my endo will have to help with the pump and I will have to work very closely with her, which makes sense. I am just wondering how that is from anyone who has done it.

Hello!

I have not had the surgery yet! My first appointment is 2-14. I have Tricare for insurance and I am so excited they approved Lap-band finally. I am also on an insulin pump and hope to go off after surgery? Have you had the surgery yet? If so how were your sugars? Look forward to chatting with you!!

Hi Gretchen,

I have not had the surgery yet. I am hoping for my first appointment in February. I spoke to the surgeon last nigth at a WLS seminar and he said I should talk with my endocrinologist befoer I went on the pre op diet and plan how we will manage the change. It will be a big one because I am very insulin resistant and use a lot of insulin. I am seeing her on the 20th.

Maybe we can compare notes as we go along.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
