My mom had lap band surgery on 1/29. She has not gotten out of bed or had any liquids since. My dad said she feels warm... and I told him to take her temperature right away!! Is all of this normal or should she be feeling a little better by now?? I am also scheduled for surgery and just want to be sure I am aware of any abnormalities. Should I be worried???

Hello and congratulations on both you and your mom taking control of your weight! It is so important to be drinking and MOVING several hours after surgery. I would call the doctor right away, sounds like she may have an infection. Get it now before it turns into something worse. I was just banded 1-22 and have been up and about, walking my dog and making meals for my family. Let us know that she is ok.

Thanks! My dad just told me that she has a temperature of 100.4. My mom has had several other surgeries in the past and usually is lethargic after(I don't think she has a high tolerance for pain). However, I don't want my dad to mistake a symptom that could be a sign of something worse.

I would still call. No fever is normal. Get her up and give her some Water. If she is getting no protien she will continue to be lethargic. Its better to call and be on the safe side.

Hi there,

I just wanted to let you know that everyone is SO different. I was thinking that recovery was going to be a breeze, and I was not really prepared for the amount of pain I was in and how difficult it was for me to move around. My husband had to literally pull me off the couch for the first few days. Everyone handles it differently, However, I would be worried about the fever :/ Definitely call the doc

She actually talked to me today and said she just didn't feel like talking since her throat hurt so much. She said she didn't feel warm anymore but hasn't been drinking a whole lot. Just being able to talk to her made me feel better. Thanks for all of the responses!!

Someone needs to actually be checking her temp not just "feeling " her. if she's ran any kind of fever her doc needs to know ASAP. She NEED To be walking or she could develop blood clots . Someone needs to tell her laying in bed is NOT an option right now and not drinking is not an option right now .

If your dad wont call her doc than you need to . Something minor can turn serious from a fever and dehydration post op . Not to try to scare you but there are reasons docs tell you to walk, drink and CALL IF you run a FEVER !

Let us know how she is doing

Mindy

Yes, it's normal.

You mentioned feeling warm...but didn't say she had a fever. So if she has a fever, that's NOT normal.

But not wanting anything to eat or drink after any procedure is not abnormal. I didn't want anything either, the nurses kinda pushed what they could while I was there but I didn't have but a few bites over the next few days.

Fever? Call the doc.

Make sure the antibiotics are being taken as directed.

I would get her to the doctor with fever. I had a staph infection in my abdomen that showed up with major pain 9 days after being banded. I would just get it checked. My band was removed because of the infection. Better to be safe than sorry!!! Having the infection, and the band removed, was a whole lot worse than the original surgery. Be careful.

Having a LOW grade fever after surgery is completely normal. It is how the body is healing itself. Laying in bed declining to get fluids down is not normal and not acceptable, it's risky.

A low grade fever after surgery is to be expected however dehydration can also cause a low grade fever, not walking after banding is risking blood clots, being tired after surgery is normal but not a reason not to get up and walk to another room every couple of hours or so.

Call the doc, tell him what is going on and see what he suggests.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
