green 6 Posted January 29, 2008 What about offering to pay for a couple of boxes of the Cookies with the stipulation that they do not actually end up in your possession? This way you can contribute to a worthy organisation, demonstrate that you are a good friend and a team player vis-a-vis the office environment, and you get to skip out of having the temptation of those cookies inside your house. Of course the other thing which you can do is decide to take a short holiday from eating in a responsible manner, buy the cookies, eat them all, and then go back to business as usual. I feel sorry for those boy scouts (do you have 'em in the States?). They are stuck raising money by flogging apples. Ugh! This is one short step up from selling turnips. The girls have a much more marketable product: They have The Cookies!
pippinje 0 Posted January 30, 2008 I too have a daughter in GS. I work for a large company and ended up selling a butt load (is that in our metric system). I bought some thinking "Hey. Maybe they will come in before the surgery", since I don't have a date yet. Just my luck they will come in while I am on my pre-op diet. Not to mention our troop will also have to hole up and attack people infront of grocery stores. UGH!
Daisalana 33 Posted January 30, 2008 I guess I am lucky, I've never liked girl scout cookies-- even when I sold them! So when they come around sellin' em, it's a simple "No thanks!". DH on the other hand, stocks up on a year's worth of Thin Mints. Thin my ass! Hey, maybe that's why they don't harass me.. they think I make DH buy my cookies!!! :rolleyes2:
blahblahblah 4 Posted January 30, 2008 I grew up rather nearby to the factory that made the girl scout Cookies...and my mother used to go to their store and buy a huge box of broken thin mints...and freeze them..we would go outside to the garage freezer with a bowl and grab a handful (or three) and sit and eat them... And I wonder why I have a weight problem.... I like thin mints...I'm not a huge fan of the samoas...but I LOVE LOVE LOVE the shortbread...When I sold them, they were scot teas...so I still call them that...not sure what they are called anymore... In my neighborhood, we have 5 girlscouts...there are 25 or so houses..so the girls divide them and are only allowed to sell at those specific houses...WONDERFUL!!! I always buy a couple because I want to support the scouts, but at the same time I know that I will not be blasted by 30 girls... Well...except my nieces!!! ronwifey 0 Posted January 31, 2008 My daughter sells them too and I too can eat a box of thin mints at one time. I hope they come and go before I get my band. viridescence~ I know, why can't people just let it be! When I don't want a piece of cake or food at a work party or something people are like "oh come on don't be shy...you know you want some". I'm the ONLY fat women, wait no I'm the only fat Person at work and I'm not going to graze in front of them so they can all have something crappy to say behind my back. bandster_1007 1 Posted January 31, 2008 i ordered 6 boxes. i have some...willpower though..and dh and ds LOVE them too. the boyscouts in my area sell popcorn..i can't imagine them selling apples. (the popcorn is outrageous $$).
GreenChrysalis 1 Posted January 31, 2008 I think this is part of my problem with it. I'm pretty sensitive about eating in front of other people for this reason, but I've noticed people do tend to try to force it on me. It was really bad around Christmas. I can be weird about eating homemade stuff if I don't know the person well, and there was one co-worker who was practically pushing her mother's fudge on me. I honestly just didn't want it. I always decline politely, say it looks good but I don't want any, etc. But some people just can't let it be, and like you, I start to wonder if they just want ammunition. I know that sounds kind of paranoid at times, but I also know that there are a lot of catty women working here! When I don't want a piece of cake or food at a work party or something people are like "oh come on don't be shy...you know you want some". GreenChrysalis 1 Posted January 31, 2008 My DH doesn't care for the GS Cookies, so even more reason not to order them. My brother was a Boy Scout and they sold popcorn also. We all thought it was gross. And it can't compare with Cookies anyway. i ordered 6 boxes. i have some...willpower though..and dh and ds LOVE them too. the boyscouts in my area sell popcorn..i can't imagine them selling apples. bandster_1007 1 Posted January 31, 2008 last years popcorn was REALLY good..this year..yuck. but it is diacetyl free (the chemical that causes cancer)..so i'm assuming that is why it is on the bland side. no way can popcorn ever compare to somoas and dosidos. mom007 0 Posted January 31, 2008 Last night at Wal-Mart I discovered something even MORE evil than just Girl Scout Cookes. Ice cream blended with GS Cookies. I think it was Breyers or Dyers brand and it was ice cream blened with you choice of Thin Mint, Samoas, or (my personal favorite - and the flavor I bought being pre-band myself) Tagalong. Yum! Of course I had one bite just to taste last night but I also have 4 kids at home, especially my ravenouse 14 Y.O. son who eats enough for 3 people and is still miraculously thin so I'm not thinking I'll get much more. But I had to at least taste it once. But besides that, I have personally ordered 4 boxes from my boss, selling for her neice. kinda felt obligated............ anonemouse 1 Posted February 1, 2008 Luckily, I'm not a huge fan of Cookies, period. Occasionally, I'll get a craving, and I'll go get a box of 100 calorie packs or some iced oatmeal cookies, but that's about it. I ordered a few boxes of GS cookies a year or so ago. I wound up giving one box to my parents, and then threw out the remainder of the other two after they'd been open for a couple of weeks. I just don't have a big sweet tooth, so I could only eat one or two cookies at a sitting before not wanting any more.
Marimaru 7 Posted February 1, 2008 I love thin mints. If I get asked here at work I'd probably buy 1 box, but otherwise, I'm not going to hunt for them. I've had the ice cream too. I've avoided it the last few seasons.
