that pain you get when you dont chew enough...

Recommended Posts

I was banded 10/07. Had no complications. Could eat wayyy too much. Went in for first fill last week. Got spanked for stretching my pouch by eating too much. Dr. told me after my fill that if I did not chew enough, I would be in "painville". Well, of coarse he was right... Now, after I eat that bad thing and the pain shoots through my chest, is there any way to easy it? flush it with Water? Barf it? Or do I just have to wait it out???

definitely BARF IT! Technically you are not vomiting because the food has not even made it to the pouch. It's stuck in your chest. Sometimes you can wait it out....but if it hurts REALLY bad, get it out.

I'm not so sure I agree with this statement. Barfing is VERY bad for the band (the action of barfing whether food is in your tummy or not), and if you do it a lot (once and a while is probably inevitable) you can cause slipping and you don't want to lose your band do you? My advice, make extra sure to chew, chew, chew small bites and if you do end up with something stuck, try a small sip or two of pineapple juice as some people swear that it's like Draino for bandsters.

Hi Now I am worried, I am now able to eat real food, no fill yet, and I eat what I want. Salads, stirfry, sandwhich, fish what ever. I have always had a very healthy appetite and am eating less but now I am worried I could stretch my pouch. How much did your dr. say you should be eating?

barfing is bad. you should wait for it to go down if you can. in my experience, drinking on top of stuck makes for a bad situation (mine resulted in projectile vomit). It hurts bc it is negative reinforcement. Next time you will remember to chew smaller bites, wait bt bites, etc.

TulipStar- thats tough love baby- I am afraid you are right. I must admit that every time I wonder if this is ok to eat, and then how much I should chew before swallowing, I remember that pain. I think you are right. Dont try to shortcut the learning. thanks.

I need to learn these new habits as well. I get such terrible pain in my chest when something gets stuck. Think I'd learn by now!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
