I went to Dr. Ameri. His office is in Stoneham Ma and the surgery is done at Winchester Hospital. He is wonderful. He has an open forum meeting/support group on the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 7-9pm at the Jenks Center in Winchester Ma. It is definately worth going to. His next meeting is for pre-Op/and imediate Post-op and is on 2/12/08. He does both Bypass and Banding. You should check it out.

Emerson Hospital Concord MA has a great program. I had Dr. Jiser for my band and also have seen Dr. Chen in the hosp and for follow up. The overall program is excellent and includes the info session, nutritional, psychiatric and medical evaluation, monthly support groups, and follow ups with the dietician and others. I highly recommend their approach to the diet as well as the medical components of care.

My medical team was great. Drs. Adam and Arthur Glasgow in Norwood, MA. They do surgeries at Caritas Norwood Hospital. They are both caring, experienced surgeons. They're a Father and Son team. Their office staff is fabulous and they deal well with the insurance companies.

They have monthly support groups in their office too. They definitely are a great part of my success so far.

Check out their website glasgowandglasgow.com.

Take care.

Sue

My surgeon was Dr. Kastrinakis in Salem MA. The follow-up program is amazing! It includes a 12 week (1x's a week) exercise program at their facility. Part of the time is spent exercising and the other part is spent with the nutritionist.

I live in NH and I went to Brigham and Womens in Boston. Dr. Ashley Vernon did my surgery on Feb 16th and so far everything has been great. I have lost 20lbs already.

You can go online to their website and actually watch her performing a surgery if you want to.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
