Low Calorie/Band Friendly Superbowl Snacks?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone:

This is my first superbowl since going to band land. I got through the holidays fine, but I'm bugged about the superbowl and knowing that I can't chow down on this "holiday".

Any suggestions for low calorie superbowl Snacks?

Sue

I'm sure this is not the answer you are looking for...But it's one day. Enjoy whatever you want and can tolerate. You'll not want anything additional if your full and you'll be satisfied that you had some yummy tailgate favorites...I'm a believer in the "everything in moderation" that includes cheating days...You may have one every month or so.

go onto the Splenda.com webpage or low fat/healty foods and you will find a few suggestions. I know there is a good web page called eating well. Try it

Same boat here Sue. I'm making a pot of Chicken/White Bean Chili, and a low fat bean dip (FF refried Beans / grnd turkey / taco seasoning / frz corn / shredded cheese = bake). Hopefully, most won't realize the huge cut in fat/calories!

I was going to suggest chili and bean dip too! Great minds think alike! My hubby is a police officer and for the officers that work on superbowls there is an officer who takes off that day and cooks a big pot of chili for the on duty officer's to stop by and grab a bowl of. So, chili has become a superbowl tradition for us!

I make nachos.

I use soy crumbles /w taco seasoning - it's not as funky as it sounds. I make a plate for each person:

Put some fat-free refried Beans on each chip (10-12 on a plate), sprinkle the soy mixture, add a little reduced-fat cheese next. Nuke for 40-45 seconds. Add some diced Tomato, jalapeno slices and some light sour cream. YUMMM

I will be making cheese dip w/ the light velveeta (noone can tell the difference) and some guacamole. I can't eat much of any of it but I won't feel deprived either.

Can you tell we love Mexican food? lol

I am making hummus, and bringing my own personal bag of Genisoy soy chips. This way I can use the chips for my hummus, and taste any other dip that may look interesting with my dip. I know someone is bringing raw veggies....that is always a good option too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
